Kyrie Irving was traded from Brooklyn to the Dallas Mavericks in the middle of last season. Contrary to the expectations, Uncle Drew could not help Dallas secure a playoff spot last season. Despite last season’s failure, Kyrie re-signed with the Mavericks on a 3-year $126,000,000 deal. Before heading on a road trip with his teammates to face Real Madrid, Kyrie addressed the media and revealed what is keeping the Mavericks from excelling. “I was looking towards the future, while also being aware that it takes time to build a great team.”

Kyrie joined the Mavericks when more than half the season was already over. With only a few games left in the season, Kyrie did not get much time to build chemistry with Luka Doncic and Co. Now that the former Champion has re-signed with Dallas, Mark Cuban is trying to make the right moves to build around Kyrie and Luka. The process of building a championship roster takes some time and that is the reason the Dallas Mavericks have not been able to find success with Uncle Drew. Kyrie also tooted his own horn while talking about last season’s failure, “With me and Luka, we are so skilled, he makes the game so easy for everyone around him.”
