Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA, shouldering a ton of pressure and expectations, and safe to say, the 6’4″ Frenchman did not disappoint. He was the most hyped draft this season and seems just too good to be true. He can dominate both ends of the court and, despite his tall build, his agility and versatility on the court are unmatched. Going for the Rookie of the Year this season, Wemby has already garnered a lot of fans.

Well, Lakers legend Metta Sandiford-Artest a.k.a Metta World Peace has jumped on the bandwagon. In fact, he had earlier predicted that Wemby would be the first player in the history of the NBA to score 101 points in a single game, breaking legendary Wilt Chamberlain’s record of a hundred. According to a recent post on X, Metta still stands by his word.

Credit where due for Chet Holmgren

Taking to X, Metta shared a post that read, “I still think Wem will score 101pts. But Chet is pretty dope“. Giving due credit to Chet Holmgren was a pro move on Metta’s part because Chet was responsible for tearing down the Warriors on Saturday’s 130-123 overtime win by the Thunders. He pushed the game to overtime after dropping a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Moreover, he scored 19 points by halftime, giving the OKC an edge over the Warriors. Over the game, he scored 36 points, giving a stellar performance and basically playing a huge part in the team’s victory. Metta was clearly impressed by the 21-year-old’s dominating game. However, when it comes to breaking records, he is betting on Wemby.

The historic 100 pts that still haven’t been beaten

We go back to March of 1962 when the Philadelphia Warriors secured a 169-147 win against the Knicks. This game will go down in history as the highest score a player has ever made in a single game. Wilt Chamberlain rained 100 points on the Knicks, breaking his own record of 78 points, and setting a bar that has still not been broken by anyone.

Kobe Bryant was the only player who remotely came close to the number in January 2006, when he scored 81 points during the Lakers’ 122-104 wide-gap victory against the Raptors. Since then, we haven’t seen a contender for the three-digit number. Metta seems to be very confident that the rookie prodigy Wemby could break that record, and he is not crazy for thinking that either.
