The Milwaukee Bucks are currently leading the Central Division with an impressive 30-13 record and are second in leading the Eastern Conference. This further compounded the confusion when they unexpectedly fired their HC Adrian Griffin because no one could have seen that coming. Assistant Coach Joe Prunty will step up as HC until a new one is appointed.

And the name that is touted as most likely to replace Griffin is Championship-winning HC Doc Rivers. Despite this, NBA Analyst Chris Mannix believes that Doc Rivers might struggle in the new team and success might not come too easily.

Adjusting to Doc Rivers will be tough

The second half of the season is going to be a crucial period for the Bucks, who will experience transitional challenges. While Chris admits that Doc Rivers is an excellent coach, he is unsure if the Coach can fit into the Bucks. In a recent episode of his podcast, The Crossover NBA Show, Chris says, “I just think it’s gonna be really difficult for them to adjust to his coaching style in time to compete with Boston and with Philadelphia and some of the upper tier teams in their own Conference.” The Celtics are leading the Eastern Conference and the Sixers are trailing behind in the third spot.

Moreover, the biggest challenge for Rivers will be solving the Bucks’ defensive problems as per Chris. He asserts that the Bucks have Damian Lillard who is an average defender, while Malik Beasley is “slightly above average.” With not much to work with, Chris is unsure how Doc Rivers could successfully keep the Bucks on top while trying to adjust himself to the new environment.

Rivers is in serious conversation with the Bucks

While there is no formal agreement in place yet, Milwaukee and Rivers are currently working on a deal, Senior NBA Insider Chris Haynes reports. All things point to Doc Rivers eventually taking on the HC responsibility very soon as both sides seem interested in the deal.

Rivers was fired last year in May as HC by the Sixers after the team lost the Conference semi-finals to the Celtics. Following this, he has been in the broadcasting booth for ESPN this season. That might have to stop as Rivers could be picking up his coaching hat once again. As HC, Rivers led the Celtics to a Championship in 2008.
