The Detroit Pistons hired head coach Monty Williams this offseason after the Phoenix Suns fired him. Williams, who took the Suns to the NBA Finals a few years ago was perceived to have the ability to turn the Pistons franchise around. This led Monty Williams to get one of the biggest contracts a head coach in the NBA had been offered. But Williams has been facing heat on social media after making a league record in losses and last-minute Cade Cunningham changes.

The Detroit Pistons faced off against the Brooklyn Nets in their most recent matchup. Despite a strong outing by Cade Cunningham, the Pistons could not end their losing streak and went on to lose another game. This loss makes it Detroit’s 27th straight loss and counting, setting the league record for most consecutive losses in a row. But the blame is being held over the head of the Pistons head coach, Monty Williams. According to Bill Simmons, The funniest part of the Pistons game was when Cade was unconscious and scoring on every possession, then down 5 with 38.5 secs left, the Pistons came out of a timeout and ran a play to get Alec Burks a contested three. 80 million for Monty Williams might have been a whiff high.”

The Pistons lost back-to-back games to the Nets. However, this game could’ve had a different outcome if head coach Monty Williams had not made certain changes at the last minute of the game.

Cade Cunningham was having a career night with 41 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Had Williams not snubbed Cunningham, the Pistons may have walked out with the win.

Pistons playing the long game

The Detroit Pistons have the worst record in the NBA. The team’s current season record stands at 2-28. At first, one would assume that the franchise may be tanking for a higher pick in next year’s draft. But given how things are going down in Detroit, the problem may be with the coach, not the players. The Pistons have one of the youngest squads in the league, brimming with young guns, ready to prove their mettle.

Much like the Rockets in the past few years, the Pistons may have to endure this for a while. And eventually, these young players will become talented names in the league.
