Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry boasts an impressive lineage. His father, Dell Curry, is a former basketball player, while his mother dominated the volleyball court during her college days. Naturally, their athletic genes have also been passed down to his siblings, Seth and Sydel. While Steph and Seth went on to follow in the footsteps of their dad and make a career in basketball, their sister Sydel, a former college volleyball player, has carved her own path, making her name on social media as a successful Youtuber and an Instagram sensation.

Married to her brother’s former teammate, Damion Lee, Sydel recently welcomed their second child. Sydel and Damion started dating in college, and their love soon blossomed into marriage in 2018. Three years later, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Daxon Wardell-Xavier Lee. 3-year-old Daxon now has a little sister, Daryn Alicia Lee, who was born on August 8, 2023. Four months after welcoming her daughter, Sydel shed light on her struggles as a mother.

Stephen Curry’s niece is giving her mom sleepless nights

In a recent Instagram story, Sydel shared a picture of the baby monitor showing little Daryn sleeping soundly and wrote, “4 month regression been kicking my 🍑 for like 6 weeks now with 2 hour on the hour wakings every single night but miss thang learned how to sleep on her belly 😭 so I guess this was what it was all for 🥹.” Even though this is a rough period for the former volleyball player, the sleep regression is a positive sign indicating that the baby is undergoing a growth spurt or that their brain is developing.

Sleep regression is common for babies around the four-month threshold. During this period, the baby’s sleep pattern shifts, and they wake up more often during the night. And if the baby is awake, it means you are awake. Despite being busy with a newborn, Sydel Curry is still making waves with her business ventures.

In 2018, Sydel Curry Lee co-founded a winery with her sister-in-law, Ayesha Curry. However, in June 2023, it was acquired by Constellation Brands for an undisclosed amount under the direction and distribution of its portfolio company, Prisoner Wine Company. Recently, the duo celebrated its re-launch with two new releases: 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2021 Founders Blend. However, it wasn’t easy to make a mark in the white and male-dominated wine industry. To put things into perspective, only 10% of the state wineries are owned by women. This doesn’t even include black women. However, true to the brand’s identity, the two strong women have laid a precedent for others to follow.

Domaine Curry encapsulates their mission to empower women through their guiding mantra, Femme 31, which is taken from Proverbs 31 of the Bible—and points to sisterhood, empowerment, legacy, and self-determination. The sense of empowerment began with their co-founder herself, as Sydel told ESSENCE, “So, much of my life has been surrounded by my newborn and being totally present with her and my son. But the empowerment of being able to do both to be able to work and be present for my child is something I’ll never take for granted.”

For her, it has been a privilege to work alongside taking care of her children, something she draws inspiration for from her sister-in-law, Ayesha Curry, who is not only a mother of three but also a successful chef, cookbook author, business owner, and actress.
