Returning for its 73rd iteration, the three-day extravaganza commences with a celebrity basketball game on Friday, February 16, followed by the highly anticipated All-Star Saturday Night on February 17. Given their history and roots, one can only imagine the kind of stories they could tell. And considering the hats on the table—Bird’s Indiana State University and Thomas’ Indiana University—the conversations are bound to carry a local essence. The discussion will center on the passion and tradition that defines basketball in the Hoosier State.

The Indiana Glory Ballers unite

Reggie, selected as the 11th pick in the draft, dedicated all of his remarkable 18 seasons to the Indiana Pacers, etching his name into the annals of NBA history. His illustrious career, marked by five NBA All-Star appearances and a 1994 FIBA championship, saw him amass over 25,000 points.

Meanwhile, Larry Bird, regarded as one of the greatest players to grace the hardwood, was on 12 NBA All-Star teams, won three NBA championships (in 1981, 1984, and 1986) with the Celtics, and won two NBA Finals MVP Awards. He then joined the Pacers as a coach from 1997 to 2000 and rejoined them as an advisor last season.

Isiah Thomas, the driving force behind the “Bad Boys” era, showcased his brilliance in 12 All-Star appearances. Crowned MVP in 1984 and 1986, Thomas led the Pistons to back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990, earning Finals MVP honors in the latter. Thomas was also an All-America at Indiana University, leading the Hoosiers to a 47-17 record and a national championship in only two seasons.

Considering their illustrious careers, these three legends will undoubtedly have a lot of fun stories to share, from rivalries to trash-talking during the games. Stay tuned!
