The NBA already features 30 teams with 15 in each conference. However, there have been talks of adding more teams to the league with increased interest from the players. LeBron James has been front and center in this conversation, being pretty vocal about his wishes to own a team in Las Vegas. Adam Silver has already hinted at that on a positive note having the first in-season tournament finals in ‘Sin City’. This time famed ESPN anchor Stephen A. Smith joins that conversation to offer his picks.

In a fan question special on the latest episode of the ‘Stephen A Smith Show’, the analyst opened up about his views on the NBA’s expansion following a fan’s query about it. “I would definitely want an NBA team in Las Vegas. That’s a given. I would definitely want a team in Las Vegas,” said Smith. However, that isn’t his sole choice. Stephen A. Smith reveals that he is going back and forth with three more cities.

“Either Seattle because I think that’s a great basketball town and they should have never lost their team even though they’re happy in Oklahoma City, or Nashville, Tennessee,” he adds.

In the end, Smith went on to justify his pick of Nashville, saying “I think Nashville, Tennessee is an undercover big-time city, it really is, and I think that they would embrace the NBA product more so than people realize. I would like to see Nashville get one.” Stephen A’s pick still leaves a lot of room for Bron and his aspirations of having a team in Las Vegas. However, there is one more reason for James to want to own a team: killing two birds with one stone.

LeBron James’ owning an NBA team might be deeper than you think

In the last few years, James has only been vocal about two things, his wish to own an NBA team and to play with his eldest son Bronny. Right now, Bronny, who plays guard for the USC Trojans in collegiate basketball, hasn’t declared his interest in entering the 2024 draft. He has played 19 games this season, averaging 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 20.2 minutes per game.

Still a freshman, Bronny’s chances of draft declaration and the chances of getting drafted remain thin for the season. However, to eliminate the middleman, LeBron’s ownership of the Las Vegas team might ensure that his dream of sharing the floor with his son would indeed come true.
