Former NBA player and 4x NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins appears to have found a new team. The NBA free agent, who last played in the NBA in 2022, could move to a Taiwanese side 7,602 miles away from the USA. He becomes the latest NBA player to follow in Dwight Howard’s footsteps and move to Taiwan.

The 33-year-old looks to forge a lasting legacy in Taiwan, after a successful stint in the NBA. With this move, Cousins could change the ever-evolving basketball landscape in the country.

DeMarcus Cousins to sign with the Taiwan Beer Leopards

ESPN journalist Adrian Wojnarowski has dropped another ‘Woj Bomb’. According to him, former NBA center DeMarcus Cousins has signed a 10-day contract with Taiwan Beer Leopards. Woj tweeted, “Demarcus Cousins’ agreement with the Taiwan Beer Leopards is for a 10-day and four game period, sources tell ESPN. Cousins is expected to join the team in mid-January.”

DeMarcus Cousins last played for the Denver Nuggets in the 2021-22 season. He follows in the footsteps of Dwight Howard and Jeremy Lin, who both played in Taiwan after their time in the NBA wound down. Currently, the Taiwan Beer Leopards occupy the second spot in the standings, with a record of 5 wins and 4 defeats. Given the success that Howard achieved in Taiwan, Cousins could have the same impact.

Before going to Taiwan, Cousins played for the Guaynabo Mets in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior National League. There he averaged 20.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Cousins led his team to the playoffs, but the Mets lost in the semifinals. His career has petered out, but in his prime, Boogie Cousins was one of the most dominant players in the NBA.

A look at Cousins’ NBA career

The Sacramento Kings drafted DeMarcus Cousins as the 5th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft after a standout collegiate career with the University of Kentucky. He immediately became one of the star players for a promising Kings team. He earned multiple All-Star and All-NBA accolades with the Kings, however, his team always missed the postseason. In Sacramento, Boogie Cousins blossomed into one of the best centers in the league, but recurring injuries hampered his ascent into NBA super-stardom.

Following several disappointing seasons with the Kings, Cousins joined forces with Anthony Davis in New Orleans. However, since the 2016-17 season, Cousins’ constant injury problems diminished his value as well as playing time. Despite challenges, Cousins remains a respected figure in the league, celebrated for his scoring prowess and rebounding excellence.
