The Phoenix Suns‘ gamble to sacrifice depth for Bradley Beal has started paying massive dividends. Since his return to the lineup after struggling with a string of injuries to start the season, the Suns have gone 5-1 in their last six games and 4-1 in their last five at home. And this is with their leading scorer, Kevin Durant, in and out of the lineup. Although the Suns are on a hot streak, the health of their star players has been a cause for concern. There’s been a recurring pattern where one player returns to action while another gets sidelined due to injury. Beal returned to the lineup in full health on December 29, only for Kevin Durant to sustain an injury on December 31.

The injury caused him to miss three straight games. As the Suns prepare to face the Memphis Grizzlies, who are riding high after a convincing 127-113 victory against the Lakers, will Kevin Durant take the court today?

Durant suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s 112-107 win over the Orlando Magic on Dec. 31. Despite the injury, he played through the game, finishing with 31 points, five rebounds, and five assists. However, he has been sidelined since then, missing matchups against the Trail Blazers, Clippers, and Heat. He was spotted taking shots during Saturday’s shootaround and has been elevated to questionable status for Sunday’s matchup against the Grizzlies. This development bodes well for the Suns, who have been unable to fully capitalize on their offensive juggernaut.

Apart from KD, Eric Gordon is also a game-time decision due to a knee issue. However, the Suns will miss the services of Nassir Little (knee), Bol Bol (ankle), and Damion Lee (knee). If KD and Gordon sit out tonight, they might start with – Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Grayson Allen, Chimezie Metu, and Jusuf Nurkic. Even without Gordon and KD, the Suns have enough offensive power in Booker, Beal, and Allen. However, Ja Morant’s appearance on the injury report spells trouble for the 13-seeded Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies will have their work cut out tonight against the Suns

The Grizzlies were abysmal in the absence of their high-flying guard, going 6-20 without Morant in the lineup this season. He is listed as day-to-day on the injury report due to right shoulder soreness. Since returning from the 25-game suspension, the Grizzlies star has missed only one game during the team’s loss against the Denver Nuggets.

In addition, Vince Williams Jr. is also a game-time decision against the Suns due to left foot soreness. However, Steven Adams (knee), Brandon Clarke (Achilles), and Derrick Rose (thigh) are all ruled out for Sunday’s game. If Vince Williams Jr. and Morant are sidelined, Ziaire Williams and Luke Kennard would see bigger roles. Otherwise, the Grizzlies are expected to start Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Bismack Biyombo.
