Despite the anticipation surrounding Ja Morant‘s thrilling return to the NBA, fans are left disheartened by the recent news. The Memphis Grizzlies‘ superstar is now confirmed to undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, as revealed by the team. Morant sustained an injury during a training session preceding the game against the Phoenix Suns. The subsequent MRI exposed an underlying labral tear, urging an immediate surgical intervention for repair.

While the outlook is optimistic for Morant’s complete recovery as the 2024-25 season begins, Grizzlies fans must come to terms with the reality of the team navigating the upcoming games without their star player. The first 25 games without Morant have been challenging for the Grizzlies, leaving fans to endure the struggle until his eventual return.

What is in the store for the Grizzlies?

Ja Morant’s comeback sparked Grizzlies’s dismal season to a string of winning runs. They went 6-3 in their games with the superstar as he picked up where he left off, igniting the entire team. However, Morant will now join Steven Adams in sitting out for the rest of the year. The Grizzlies are back to where they began from, probably even more setbacks.

Even with Morant in the lineup, their playoff and Play-In aspirations offered a challenging journey, which demanded them to be near-perfect in their remaining 46 regular season games. Furthermore, their lingering questions about their depth in the wings and frontcourt persist.

Even though Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard are great boosters for the squad, they are not enough to conceal the vulnerable aspects of the rotation; especially in a Morant-less squad. Memphis need a huge change in their approach if they Memphis desire to enter the post-season, with a shot at going deeper in the playoffs.
