LeBron James’s next move hinges on more than on-court fit—it’s about who can reach his heart. Though the veteran legend nears the twilight of his career, a host of opportunities are present on his table. While the Warriors are bidding for a Big-4 move alongside Anthony Davis, the Heat are planning another formidable Big-3 with Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Yet it could be a homecoming storyline with the Cleveland Cavaliers that catches his eye. And if the rumors are true, the Cavs have intensified their approach with a host of adjustments, none more prominent than courting a superstar fan to step in.

The Cavs have reportedly reached out to LeBron’s fellow Ohio native and three-time Super Bowl winner, Travis Kelce.
“Cleveland brass has reached out to both Travis and Jason to do some finessing and courting of LeBron to come back home and finish his career with the Cavs,” the Daily Mail reported exclusively. “[They’re] also asking the brothers to be a part of a video package to send his way to pull on his heartstrings.
Ever since the emotional return to the Rocket Arena last season, where LeBron shed tears during the tribute video, rumors suggested the Cavaliers could be the perfect landing spot to close his legendary career. The narrative is currently competing with a host of winning opportunities. The 76ers have the Brown-Maxey-and-Embiid trio to convince the 22x All-Star, while the Timberwolves are in the mix with the Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball dyad, and the idea of winning their first championship. Facing such scenarios, it’s reasonable that the Cavs are reportedly asking famous fans to play a pivotal role in securing his signature. And the idea doesn’t come without a connection.
“LeBron’s agent has mentioned the next spot he plays is all for LeBron’s happiness, and the Cavs feel what better way to be happy than to return home, and they are looking to use the Kelces and other Cleveland fans to get them over the hump. And it appears that Travis and Jason are fully on board to get LeBron back to bring another championship to Cleveland,” as per the Daily Mail.

During the Eastern Conference Finals in May this year, Travis Kelce was even in attendance at Rocket Arena, supporting the team. LeBron James noticed and shared it on social media, hyping his presence. The two have even appeared on podcasts together, signifying there is a close bond or at least notable enough to mention. Even during the holiday season, LeBron and the Kelce brothers teamed up with Amazon to donate more than 1 million products, including holiday gifts and essential items.
As per the Daily Mail, the Cavaliers are hoping for a video message from the Chiefs’ TE to tilt the scales in their favor. The franchise is no stranger to tugging at LeBron’s heartstrings to facilitate his return. Back in 2013, the Cavs famously leveraged his Ohio origins and celebrated his return to the Rocket Arena with the Miami Heat to set the deal in motion. They also retired former center Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ jersey, one of LeBron’s favorite teammates, suggesting the latter’s return could invite a similar, if not bigger, emotional outpouring. Now, 13 years later, the franchise is reportedly setting the pieces again.
The Cavs’ front office has made significant progress in the offseason. Recently, they tied down Donovan Mitchell to a four-year, $273M maximum contract extension. Besides securing its star man for on-court excellence, his off-court admiration may also prove pivotal for the franchise. According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, “James was Mitchell’s favorite player as a teenager growing up outside of New York City.”
According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, even James Harden opted out of his roughly $43 million player option for this season. The 37-year-old is reportedly waiting for Lebron’s decision and may even be willing to work with the Cavs to secure the required cap space to land his services. As per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Cavaliers could trade Dennis Schroder or Max Strus to gain access to the full mid-level exception, which could help a potential contract for LeBron. The free agent’s inclusion may weaken the team’s defense, but the offensive contribution could be enough to power a championship campaign.
Having made the conference finals last season, the franchise seems keen to push for a title run. The Cavs were in the second apron of the luxury tax last year, incurring penalties. However, owner Dan Gilbert doesn’t hesitate to push the envelope if it means winning an NBA title, having paid historical penalties and salaries during LeBron’s previous stint.
But if emotions and storyline are indeed the driving forces behind the Cleveland Cavaliers’ plans, they may have to make room for a family reunion.
LeBron James reportedly isn’t returning alone to the Cavaliers
ESPN Cleveland shared the post from Caroline’s Cupcakes, aka Cupcake Lady, who previously reported on LeBron’s return to Cleveland.
“Hey guys, I’ve got it on good authority that not only is LeBron coming back to Cleveland, but he’s bringing Bronny *and* Draymond with him. If you don’t believe me, you can Google Caroline Cupcakes + LeBron to check my credential. This ain’t my first rodeo, IYKYK,” the post read.
It was in 2014 when Caroline’s Cupcakes posted on Facebook that James’ return to the Cavaliers was a “done deal”. It was days before the official confirmation, and that’s what made the bakery famous. This time, the messaging is not only about Bron’s return but also about his son, Bronny, and friend Draymond Green.
Green also opted out of his player option with the Warriors, and it was widely expected he would re-sign once LeBron James was on board with Golden State. In fact, Shams Charania reported that Green and Bron would be golfing together this week, which again fuels the speculation. So far, the deal is not done, but a farewell homecoming, playing alongside teammates who respect him, could swing the decision.
