We are hours away from the NBA Trade deadline, and teams are moving quickly to secure players. The Philadelphia 76ers for one, will need as much offensive power following the sudden halt of their superstar center Joel Embiid‘s season. He isn’t expected to return for at least a month after undergoing meniscus surgery in the left knee. With the reigning MVP out of the picture for now, they were expected to make some moves in the trade market in an attempt to keep the team afloat in his absence.

It was anticipated that they would push to sign players whose contracts were either about to expire, or whose salaries for the following season were not entirely guaranteed, or even those who could be easily traded. Under these circumstances, the Sixers had been working out a deal with the Indiana Pacers to acquire their shooting guard, Buddy Hield.

As per the latest reports, Shams updated on the developments, “Philadelphia is acquiring a tremendous scorer and shooter in Buddy Hield, who is set to be among the top free agents this offseason.” In exchange for Buddy, the Pacers received Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and three future second-round picks.

As a bonus for the Sixers, Buddy is on an expiring contract. This means that they will have the flexibility to retain the Bahamian star in free agency this summer when they can reach the maximum salary cap space.

What is Philly getting in Buddy Hield?

Right off the bat, the Sixers are getting a healthy player who has not missed a single game this season. This is a huge advantage because of the inconsistencies in the team’s roster due to persistent injuries ever since the beginning of the season. Additionally, Buddy is widely regarded as an incredible 3-point shooter. A 6’4″ guard that can shoot well is a rare find for the Sixers.

Buddy will pose a threat on the backcourt, especially in the absence of big man Joel Embiid. He currently holds averages of 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. This includes 44.3 FG% and 38.4 3P% shooting percentages. This is an exciting and much-needed addition for the Sixers, who will find much help on the offensive front.
