The NCAA season is still around a quarter of a year away. In the women’s leg, the buzz has never been this high. The Finals between LSU and Iowa broke viewership records and continue to ring loud in many minds. The narratives of the tourney have shaped the perceptions of some players. Angel Reese, the LSU star, was at the forefront when she dissed Caitlin Clark through her own ‘You Can’t See Me” celebration.

She has been called the greatest LSU athlete by LSU’s own Shaquille O’Neal. However, one former hooper thinks she could have shut her team down.

Reese has one of the most prolific low-block games in the world. She put up 20+ points and 10+ rebounds a game repeatedly throughout the NCAA season. She and Flau’jae Jackson put up a show and brought their alma mater its first title.

After a barren field for 48 years, it was Reese and co. that finally got the LSU women’s basketball program a championship. This is one reason former Lakers Center Shaq termed Angel as the greatest LSU athlete ever and defended her too. However, this is a College that has produced other mega superstars who have achieved a lot in pro ball.

Former LSU Superstar, Seimone Augustus is confident about her chances against Reese’s squad. Augustus featured in the WNBA for more than a decade and won four championships. The 2006 LSU featured Sylvia Fowles and Augustus. Their team didn’t make it past the NCAA Final Four, but the duo of Augustus and Fowles could extinguish a lot of defenses.

This is why an interviewer asks which LSU team is better, hers or the current, Augustus replies, “Mine back in the day with Sylvia, without a doubt. But both teams are great obviously. The outcomes are different. The effort was there, the energy, the intensity, and everything that needed to go into make it possible for them to catapult to doing what they did”.

Then she is asked, “If your team played their team, then who wins?

To this question, Augustus made an “Oh Please! face and then the bewildered former WNBA champion stated, ”We would. That’s not a question. That’s without a doubt. It’s a blowout”.

Fowles and Augustus won four championships together. Syl was a complete Center who could score inside, shoot well from mid-range, rebound a ton, and play elite defense. Augustus is one of the best scorers to play the game and her fluent jump shots combined with a bunch of in-between moves made her a match-up nightmare.

While Reese is a strong low-block player, she is still a tad behind Sylvia’s 2006 version, which was dominating on both ends. Flau’jae has a lot to learn if she wants to be in a conversation with Augustus.
