The New York Knicks pulled off a rare stunt, and that was the December mid-season trade involving OG Anunoby. They made a huge roster move by acquiring OG from the Raptors, along with Malachi Flynn and Precious Achiuwa while sending off RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second-round pick.

This was an interesting deal for the Knicks, who are obviously looking to turn things around and possibly usher in a new era. Presently in a slump with three back-to-back losses, the Knicks will be testing new waters with Anunoby on board and they are wasting no time in inculcating him into the team.

A defensive prowess is exactly what the Knicks need right now, and with the ink on the contract barely dry, sources have confirmed that Anunoby will be kick-starting his Knicks’ debut at Madison Square Garden against the Wolves tomorrow. As per a tweet shared by Underdog NBA, “Status alert: OG Anunoby expected to be available to make Knicks debut Monday.”

OG is a perfect piece for New York; being an excellent lockdown defender, he will definitely fill in on the area they are lacking. OG stands out as a top 3 & D role player and it only helps that he is young because you can practically put him on any roster and he will make it work. So what does OG’s trade mean for the Knicks?

On the D and offense

It is no secret that PG Quickley was being underutilized as a result of heavy traffic in HC Tom Thibodeau’s backcourt and wing rotation, and this trade could potentially relieve the pressure. With OG in the picture, it could enhance player optimization, not to mention the complementary role he will play for Jalen Brunson’s ball-handling and offensively powered games.
