Ahead of the Super Bowl LVIII, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes dropped a shocking statement. The 28-year-old rising superstar, who is on his course to become an NFL great, took some time out to reflect on the NBA superstar Stephen Curry. While the duo has gone at each other in the past in a different ball game, Mahomes seemed to have been impressed by the Baby-faced Assassin. However, he shockingly claimed that if he played basketball, he would be just as good as Curry. Wishful thinking?

“If I played basketball, I’d be just like Steph Curry,” he said, ahead of Super Bowl opening night during a meet with the press. Moreover, he didn’t stop at that. He further went on to speak about his shooting skills. He added, “I mean, I got the shot… couple of extra reps, couple of shots up, I’ll be shooting just like him.”

Notably, Pat’s statement came exactly during Steph’s monumental feat. Curry went on to drop his 3,600th career three-pointer and became the only player in the history of the league to ever do that. There’s no doubt that Steph has scaled the almost unattainable feat in the NBA world. However, he fell short of Pat Mahomes in a golf game.

Steph teamed up with his Splash Brother Klay Thompson and went up against Mahomes and Travis Kelce for a 2v2 celebrity golf game. Even though Curry rocked the sporting world with a hole-in-one, he couldn’t sustain the Chiefs’ heat.

On the other hand, both stars have striking similarities between them. Steph tried to out the last superstar LeBron James and almost achieved it with 4 rings. Similarly, Mahomes had Tom Brady, and he was also on his path to pull off Curry’s magic.

Chiefs return to the big stage while the Warriors struggle to stay afloat

It could be too early to draw comparisons between an NBA season and an NFL season. But, in this case, the Kansas City Chiefs clearly had a better season than the Warriors. Irrespective of the sweeping attention that the Chiefs received with Taylor Swift in the stands, the team also put up a grand show. They finished the season, topping the table with an 11-6 record. Now, they are off to their back-to-back SB appearance.

Meanwhile, the Dubs have a lot to prove to even qualify for the playoffs. The team had consistency issues with Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson. At the same time, Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski showed great potential for the future.
