Emotions took over the NBA world after the Golden State Warriors‘ heartbreaking exit. Fans and critics looked for the reasons behind the team’s shaky season that bid farewell to Stephen Curry‘s legacy. While the majority of the critics bashed Klay Thompson, the popular TV personality, Nick Wright dug out the hidden reason. The Fox Sports host fumed the Warriors’ front office’s choice to trade the 38-year-old Chris Paul over their budding superstar.

An X user quoted Nick Wright’s words from his latest rant on the Warriors space. He criticized the Dubs’ agenda to focus on the youth movement instead of banking on their core team. Wright said, “Prioritizing the youth movement is disrespectful to Curry’s legacy.” Importantly, he exploded talking about the Jordan Poole trade in the offseason. The post further read, “Traded away their best young player for a “win-now” 78 year old Chris Paul.”

The Warriors shocked the NBA world in the 2023 off-season when they traded out Jordan Poole. Despite a few instances of sloppiness on the court with turnovers, Poole, in his third season, was the best young talent in the Dubs fold. He played all 82 games and averaged 20.4 points with 4.5 assists per game last season.

Amid this impressive stat line, the team traded him out for 38-year-old Chris Paul. Apart from losing the size advantage, the team also lost an active scorer. The veteran point guard had a drastic dip in his points column, averaging only 13.9 points in the 2022-23 season. Not to forget, the Draymond Green-Jordan Poole controversy, which did force the trade. However, CP3’s inclusion didn’t justify Poole’s replacement.

Steve Kerr introduced Paul off the bench for the first time in his career. With a reduced average stay of 26 minutes this season, he dropped at an average of 9.2 points per game with 6.8 assists. Clearly, not matching up to Poole’s numbers. Nevertheless, Jonathan Kuminga‘s breakout season, averaging a career-high 16.1 points this season.

Will Stephen Curry’s legacy end with this season?

This isn’t the first time when this question has popped up. When the Warriors crashed out in the 2019 NBA Finals, losing both Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant to injuries was another instance. In the following season, the Warriors managed to win only 15 games and ended the season at the bottom of the table. At that time, the NBA world exclaimed that Stephen Curry’s legacy was over without Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.

Another season later, the trio, this time Curry, Thompson, and Green, got back together and shut down the critics with their fourth ring in the 2022 NBA Finals. The visuals of Curry breaking down during the final finals of Game 6 at TD Garden took over the NBA world. Two years later, the NBA world has raised the question once again.
