Andrew Wiggins needs to turn his season around. He is shockingly bad at everything offense this season. Remember when he was leading the Warriors’s last championship run in 2022? He emerged as the second-leading scorer and also led his team in rebounding and blocking. Yeah, those were halcyon days. The former All-star is suddenly looking lost in the Bay Area. And by lost, we mean he is having his worst season.

Not only did head coach Steve Kerr demote him to the bench to try out new rotations, but his global ranking has fallen flat and he has made it to the list of most underperforming players.

Wiggins‘ descent has been nothing short of jaw-dropping. His preseason ranking stood at a decent 52nd overall. Now? A bitter 179th spot, according to Hoopshype global rating. That’s a nosedive of 127 spots, folks. A freefall that would make Icarus jealous.

More numbers paint an even bleaker picture. Wiggins is averaging a career-low 12.3 points per game. This is the statistical equivalent of watching paint dry. Worse, his presence on the court actually makes the overall team worse. By a staggering 17.4 points per 100 possessions, to be precise.

This nosedive comes with a hefty price tag, too. Wiggins is locked until 2026-27, earning an impressive $30.2 million unless he opts out (which, at this rate, would be the only highlight of his season if he doesn’t turn things around).

It’s not over yet for Wiggins

He has not given up. Wiggins returned to the Christmas game after missing two games due to illness. Wiggins had his one decent game of this month. The Nuggets held off the Golden State Warriors from a win. But, Andrew Wiggins had a game-high 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting, including 12 in the 4th quarter, and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Warriors outscored the Nuggets by 18 points during his 29 minutes.

Wiggins must sustain this kind of strong output in a stretch before his arrival to full form is announced. The warriors have all kinds of incentives for him to figure out so there is no lack of chances. He has already lost his starting role to Brandin Podzeimski as Kerr is looking for new rotations with bench players in the absence of Draymond Green. GSW will host the Miami Heat on Thursday.
