Devin Booker has been on a tear this season. With impressive averages of 27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 7 assists, he has ensured the Phoenix Suns a guaranteed playoff spot with a comfortable fifth position in the Western Conference. Therefore, an All-Star selection was a no-brainer. To kick off the festivities, he walked in for practice with his highly anticipated Nike Book 1 “Mirage” in hand.

Five months after they were teased, the fans finally got their hands on the highly anticipated Book 1s. As expected, the sneakers, which retailed at $140, were sold out minutes after release. The shoes, with their gray and cream “Mirage” colorway, blend lifestyle aesthetics with performance functionality. Inspired by Air Force 1, Blazer, and AJ1 and his restored vintage cars, a 1972 Chevy Blazer K5, the Book 1s are designed to reflect his grown and refined aesthetic.

On the occasion of their launch, the shoes were plastered all over the billboards in downtown Indianapolis. Speaking about the drop, Booker said in an interview, “Too excited about it. It’s kinda surreal to see the billboards, especially the ones in a high place. It’s a full thing. It is a special time for me and my family, just being a part of the brand, being a part of Nike.”

However, for those who couldn’t get their hands on them, they will be released in a new colorway soon.

D-Book’s favorite aspect of his signature shoes

When asked about his favorite performance aspect of the sneakers, the 26-year-old remarked, “It’s a classic shoe, but all the performance is on the inside. I’ve modeled it after a lot of my vintage cars.” Notably, while they might look like casual shoes, they include elements that help with lateral stability, cushioning, and underfoot responsiveness. It is also layered with Cushlon 2.0 foam within the midsole and a TPU sidewall for added support, in addition to a top-loaded Nike Zoom airbag in the heel.

D-Book has been affiliated with the Nike brand since he was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 2015. He then re-signed with the Swoosh brand in 2018. And now his latest extension will ensure no less than a 15-year tenure with the Swoosh through 2029.
