Things are not looking up for the James family, but they have little Zhuri to lift their spirits. On one hand, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers grapple with the looming threat of the single-elimination No. 9 vs. No. 10 game. On the other hand, the critics have been firing shots right, left, and center ever since Bronny James decided to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft. However, nine-year-old Zhuri’s volleyball skills might offer a welcome escape for Savannah James from the barrage of criticism being hurled at her eldest son.

In her recent Instagram story, Mama James showed off her daughter’s volleyball skills, writing, “Let’s go @allthingszhuri!!!” The video shows Zhuri serving the ball, ultimately leading the team to victory, and ends with joyful celebrations alongside her teammates. In the background, Savannah’s voice rings out, cheering on her little one with a proud “Good job.”

While Zhuri is shining on the floor, Bronny is being torn apart by the skeptics. The 19-year-old entered college touted as a top-15 prospect, boasting impressive averages of 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.8 steals as a senior at Sierra Canyon High. However, a preseason cardiac arrest completely changed the trajectory of his career. Following his four-month recovery period, he came back only a shell of his former self, ending his freshman year with 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19 minutes a game at USC. However, despite the underwhelming stats, Bronny decided to test the NBA waters anyway, declaring for the upcoming draft while also maintaining his college eligibility and entering the transfer portal.

Bronny’s future has ignited a fiery debate within NBA circles. Some believe that he would go undrafted in even a historically weaker draft class if not for his father’s influence. They argue that he should return to college for another season to hone his skills before transitioning to the pros. Others are of the opinion that Bronny is an elite defender, despite his 6’2″ frame, and with proper coaching and training, he would thrive in the NBA. The former Golden State Warriors coach falls into the latter category.

In a recent FanDuel TV episode, Mark Jackson said, “I think he’s a pro. He needs time, but he has NBA body. He’s an NBA type defender at the perimeter position. He’s a guy that’s only going to get better. And to me, knowing, having played and coached in the league, I know the benefit of being around NBA coaches and NBA staff.” Do you agree with Jackson?
