The Portland Trail Blazers were relevant for the last five years, mostly because of Damian Lillard. Apart from a Conference Finals appearance in the last 10+ years, the squad hasn’t done anything special. They have been among the bottom teams in the last few years. When Lillard didn’t play, not many apart from the diehard Blazers fans cared that much. Therefore, after Lillard’s departure, the team can be in desperate need of attention. After all, many NBA fans shy away from watching teams that are projected to lose on most nights. Therefore, any attention coming on mainstream television is a huge deal.

This happened when Jimmy Fallon dissed the team’s representative symbol. Now their prized rookie Scoot Henderson has come up with a measured response.

During the season’s opening day, late-night TV show host Jimmy Fallon decided to roast NBA logos. While he was okay with the logos of most of the teams, the Trail Blazers put him off. He noticed that it didn’t have a basketball. After revisiting the slide, he showed his displeasure at viewing the logo. He then went on to roast it on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

He rapped, “It’s a real bad drawing of a candy cane / It’s a comma and apostrophe doin’ a thing. It’s Picasso’s version of a hurricane / it’s Ed Sheeran going down the drain. It’s Donald Trump’s hair with a chicken’s wing / It’s a 69 don’t wanna be profane. Man, I don’t know what it is at all / All I know is, it ain’t basketball. Hey Tariq, let me ask you, what is this thing? Do you have a clue?

Portland Trail Blazers’ young rookie Scoot Henderson came out with a reply for the initial part of the song. In a cinematic movie produced by most probably the franchise’s production, Henderson assumes the role of a scribe. He picks a basketball-themed pen and gives a solid reply to Fallon.

In a satirical video, we can see that he is writing down on a notepad with the heading “Thank You”. Henderson jots down, “Thank You basketball clip art for not being a part of the branding”.

After writing this, he sticks the note in an envelope. Then he writes, “And thank you, commas, apostrophes, Ed Sheeran, and candy canes for being true Trail Blazes. Sorry, you had to take the heat on this one.

The athlete then thanks the host of the Tonight Show.

Scoot Henderson comes with an epic reply

After that, he finally gives credit to Jimmy Fallon. He notes down, “Thank You, Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the Tonight Show for the free publicity.” The video then closes with the logo Trail Blazers. The production value, the oration, and the acting skills of the 19-year-old rookie stand out. This is indeed a solid reply to the jibes by Fallon. By the way, the ten lines in the Trail Blazers logo aim to showcase the five-on-five battle between two squads in a pinwheel format.

As per NBC, the franchise during its press release in 2017 unveiled the logo and pointed out that the lines “represent the game of basketball; two teams of five players, coming together at center court in competition. The movement and symmetry of the lines reflect the mechanics and fluidity of the game. ”

It continued, “The angle of the lines are now at exactly 45 degrees representing the 45th Parallel North that leads on a path to the Northwest region, our community, and our hometown.”
