Ja Morant will miss early games for the Grizzlies in the upcoming season after being suspended for 25 games starting last season for conduct detrimental to the league’s standards. The suspension came after he was seen flashing a gun on Instagram Live marking his second gun-related incident. Following these incidents, a team insider accused his father, Tee Morant, as the “driving force” for Ja’s misconduct. Many others accused Tee of living off a superstar life at the behest of Ja’s success that he couldn’t afford himself. 

However, amid these allegations, support has come from an unexpected quarter for Ja and his father. Warriors’ $60M star Draymond Green has called off these labels and cooled down some air.

Green makes a powerful statement

Green took to Instagram and shared a post that accused Tee of Ja’s unwanted behavior. He wrote that hinted that there is no reason for his father to be there with him anywhere he desires. In the Instagram story, he writes, “Oh no… let’s not remove another black father from their child life.”

As a seasoned player, his words carry weight for those who pick and roll facts to construct narratives. An anonymous accusation doesn’t take away the support that Tee provides for his son. “They not going for it anyway” Green added, hinting that people are blowing it out of proportion by accusing Ja’s father of his behavior.

Tee has been there to support Ja 

Ja’s father has been with all the thick and thin with Ja ever since he won his Rookie of the Year in 2020. That night during an emotional interview, Ja said of his father, “He made me who I am today and I’m just thankful for it all.”

Ever since the first instance of gun controversy, Ja has been trying to revamp his image. As he returned to court after his first game suspension ended, Tee’s presence beside the court became more visible. He wore a t-shirt with Ja printed on it and the word ‘REDEMPTION’ written on it. It is unfair to assume that Ja’s father is the ‘driving force’, given that Ja himself has taken full accountability and regretted his behavior many times.
