With their win over Spain, the Canadians have finished the group stage in the Paris Olympics with a perfect 3-0 record. Led by RJ Barrett and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Canada had to face quite the competition to make it this far. However, the stacked NBA players did not let the team down, as Canada advanced to the Quarter-Final round. While Jamal Murray, who had a lot of expectations to fulfill, hasn’t found his rhythm in the tournament so far, Shai and Barrett’s contribution has put the Canadians on top. Meanwhile, coach Jordi Fernandez has praised another player’s performance.

Dillon Brooks, who isn’t very popular among NBA fans, has proven to be an all-rounder for Canada in the Olympics. He scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists against Spain and put on similar performances throughout the group stage. The forward has shown how valuable he’s been and the head coach couldn’t help but acknowledge his contributions. “He’s a special person, he’s a fighter, and he sets the tone for everybody else You know, we’re very fortunate to have him. He’s been amazing with his role. What he means for the group. We’re all very happy to have Dillon Brooks and if I could have him in my team for the rest of my life,” said Jordi.

It’s great to see Brooks finally play at his best given his past in the NBA. Ever since he departed from Memphis, he has been struggling. There is no doubt that he’s an excellent defender and a decent scorer. But then again, his contributions haven’t been consistent. However, in the Olympics, the 28-year-old has proven himself and has led the Canadian squad, along with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and RJ Barrett.

As they approach the Quarter-Final round, Canada will be among the top three teams out of the final eight. The MVP candidate, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been putting up fantastic numbers along with RJ Barrett. While SGA was expected to be the leader on the offensive end, Barrett has also stepped up to take matters into his own hands as seen in the last few games. But what is next for the SGA and the Canadians?

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Barrett have a crucial job at hand

At this point, the two guards seem to be Canada’s key to a deep run in the playoffs. Barrett has been shooting over 45% from three and about 59% from the field. While the Raptor was a decent shooter during the regular season, he has certainly stepped up his game. On the other hand, Shai has also been consistent from the field, putting up 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assist per game. These two combined with Brooks and Lu Dort have done wonders for Team Canada.

With the most NBA players on their roster after Team USA, fans are anticipating a possible matchup between the two teams in the playoffs. It will be an interesting matchup to witness and it may just be the first time on the Olympic hardwood where both the teams will feature all NBA players.
