With the All-Star break having concluded a few days ago, the focus of NBA fans is now towards the regular season and the teams that have been occupying the top of the points table. The Denver Nuggets have been in that conversation, due to them being in the 4 place of the Western Conference chart. Much of the team’s success this season could be owed to the efforts of 26-year-old Jamal Murray, who has managed to average 20.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game.

While Murray succeeded in helping the Nuggets secure 30+ victories this season, he had to recently opt out of last Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings due to having developed a bilateral tibia inflammation. The leg injury also prevented him from participating during the All-Star Weekend. Ever since then, fans had been anticipating whether the point guard would be available when the Nuggets face off against the Washington Wizards. With the release of a recent update, however, fans will let out a sigh of relief.

According to a social media post, the latest injury report released by the NBA shows that Jamal Murray has been placed in the ‘probable’ category. The same list has also placed his teammates Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (right hamstring tendinosis), and Julian Strawther (left ankle sprain) in the same category. This would mean that if all goes well, the Wizards will have to face the three powerhouses of the Nuggets at the same time.

Murray reportedly started to feel the symptoms of bilateral tibia inflammation when facing off against the Milwaukee Bucks last Monday. The situation had gotten worse during halftime, which led the player to sit out during the second half. Upon being questioned about the same, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone revealed that Murray wanted to play the second half. He was, however, advised against it by coaches and other staff.

“Yes, we want to win games, but Jamal and KCP are integral to our success,” said Malone in a statement. “So, we’re trying to have a big picture with that.”

If one would think that Murray getting injured is a rare instance, then they would be quite wrong. The 26-year-old is no novice to injuries, having passed through the worst of it and still emerging strong.

Murray’s first major experience with an NBA related injury occurred back in 2021, when the player developed a torn ACL in his left knee. It forced him to go through a surgical reconstruction of the ACL and opt out of games indefinitely. The point guard wouldn’t return until October 2022, just in time to kick the season off to a great start and lead the Nuggets to a championship victory in June 2023.

Murray’s big bout with a torn ACL was just the beginning. While the player reportedly wasn’t injured as badly after that, he would still go on to miss 11 games in November 2023 due to a right hamstring strain. Though his latest injury is probably not his last one, NBA fans will be glad to see their champion return to the court in the next few hours.
