1 Year After Nasty Injury, 21YO WNBA Star Leaves Court in Shambles After Unfortunate Landing

In professional basketball, injuries can be really bad and it can have a significant impact on the athlete’s overall career. One incident recently occurred in a WNBA game, that left fans and teammates in shock. Awak Kuier, a 21 Yo rising star, suffered a nasty injury during a game. Kuier has faced many challenges along the way to achieving success. From overcoming language barriers and racial prejudices to establishing herself as a strong defender, she has come a long way. She led Finland to victory in the U18B Women’s European Championship, which cemented her status as a rising star. 

This recent injury comes exactly one year after Kuier’s previous injury, adding to the concern about her career. 

The unfortunate landing during a game led to a nasty injury

During a recent game between the Dallas Wings and the Seattle Storm, Awak took an impressive offensive rebound during the second quarter. As she went up for a shot, she landed awkwardly on her left foot, resulting in an ankle twist. The impact was immediate, and Kuier fell to the floor in pain, leaving the court in shambles.

Coach Trammell of Dallas expressed frustration with the lack of intervention. The timeout was eventually called, allowing medical staff to attend to Kuier. The injury was really bad, and she remained on the floor for a brief period. She was later taken out of the court, as she could barely move. Dallas managed to win the match by 76-65 points. 

This is the second injury in a year

Unfortunately for Kuier, this is not the first encounter with injury setbacks. Just over one year ago, she also suffered from an ankle injury that forced her out of action temporarily.

Dallas has been dealing with multiple injuries throughout their season. That has further complicated matters for them as they strive to be contenders in the WNBA. Satou Sabally is another forward player who was sidelined due to an ankle injury alongside Kuier.

It still remains to be seen how long she will remain out of action or how it will affect their team’s performance. The Dallas Wings will undoubtedly need to regroup and find ways to compensate for her absence.
