The FIBA World Cup has been the center of attraction in the basketball world this summer. Several NBA stars have been lighting up the tournament with their brilliant performances in the preparation games. However, Team USA has been asserting its dominance in the tournament as always. Although several players have contributed heavily to the team’s success, a lot has relied on their 21-year-old superstar, Anthony Edwards. In fact, the Minnesota Timberwolves guard has been so good that he drew comparisons with His Airness, Michael Jordan himself.

The NBA has witnessed several legends grace the court and take the basketball world by storm. However, there has barely been another legend who influenced the game as much as Michael Jordan did. The Chicago Bulls legend not only had an unbelievable career but also led his franchise to one of the most dominant runs in the NBA. For anyone to be compared with the 6-time NBA champion is no joke. However, Edwards’ comparison with the Black Cat did not sit well with 35-year-old Patrick Beverley.

Pat Bev bashes the outrageous Anthony Edwards-Michael Jordan comparison

Anthony Edwards has lit up the FIBA World Cup with his phenomenal performances this summer. Tasked to lead the young Team USA roster, the Timberwolves star has not disappointed, guiding them to a perfect record in the exhibition games. In a recent game against Germany, however, the All-Star guard took his game to a different level.

In a play during the game against Germany, Edwards drove to the baseline to take a tough fadeaway shot. However, fans could not help but compare Edwards’ shot to the legendary Michael Jordan’s iconic fadeaway. The 21-year-old hit his defender with the classic turnaround fadeaway which Jordan popularised during his playing days. This prompted fans to compare Edwards to His Airness, also pointing out similarities in their looks. However, Patrick Beverley was not having this.

The Philadelphia 76ers combo guard took to Twitter to slam this comparison. “Don’t start that when I said that Yal called me crazzzzyyy @PatBevPod“, he wrote, showing his frustration.

Beverley clearly seemed frustrated with his former teammate’s comparison with the Black Cat. However, just a few months ago, the 35-year-old had the same opinion regarding his former teammate.

Patrick Beverley expressed his discontent with the Edwards-Jordan comparison during the FIBA World Cup. However, just a few months ago, Beverley shared the exact same opinion which did not receive the warmest reactions from fans.

During a live stream of the Game 4 of the Western Conference first-round matchup between the

Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Beverley made a bold comment about the 21-year-old. Edwards went off for 43 points against the eventual champions, also drilling the game-winning three-pointer to avoid a sweep in the first round.

This performance had Beverley in awe, who went on to compare the All-Star guard to the great Michael Jordan. “It’s expected people call me crazy, I told ’em. He could be the next Michal Jordan“, said Beverley, on the Pat Bev podcast during the livestream.

Patrick Beverley may not have received the warmest response, but he too believes Anthony Edwards could be the next Michael Jordan. Despite lashing out at the comparison, The Sixers’ combo guard cannot deny Edwards’ potential. His FIBA World Cup heroics have only strengthened his case to be considered the next heir to the throne.
