The NBA is full of awe-inspiring stories that would make anyone’s hair stand up, and Pascal Siakam’s basketball odyssey has been just that. From the dusty roads of Douala to fulfilling his “American Dream”, Siakam has raked in the moolah by mastering the game which came a distant second to his first love, soccer. His unshakeable confidence and strong desire through thick and thin have made him one of the NBA’s richest stars, with his stock rising by the day.
But the roots for this can be traced back to 2016 when he was selected as the 27th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors. This was the genesis of his incredible journey towards attaining financial freedom. His first NBA deal was a modest one. A rookie contract signed for 2-4 years, worth $6,405,441. From then on, there was no looking back for this self-made Cameroonian.
Every year, he worked tirelessly on his game, so much so that he would be named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2018/19 season while bringing ultimate glory to the North. He had become a vital cog in the Raptors’ well-oiled machine and was duly rewarded by them with a four-year, $130 million contract extension in October 2019.
