Former football player and sports columnist Jason Whitlock recently released a new episode of his ‘Fearless’ podcast. During the same, he shone a light on a list of celebrities who have expressed an interest in running for President sometime in the foreseeable future. Among the first people to come under Whitlock’s radar was Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The podcaster highlighted Curry’s recent interview with CBS Mornings, during which he discussed how having the most powerful job in the world could allow him to enact some changes.

“If politics is a way that you can create meaningful change, or if there is another way outside of politics that you know we can do….” said Curry during the interview. Whitlock did not choose to discuss Curry’s aspirations immediately after that. Instead, he chose to divert his attention to another individual from the NBA fraternity: Stephen A. Smith. The 56-year-old showed the least enthusiasm for Smith’s aspirations, as can be observed from his introduction of the ESPN sportscaster.

“We’ve got a basketball player, a football player, an actor in ‘The Rock’, and now a ‘pathological liar’ in Stephen A Smith,” said Whitlock.

There is no love lost between Whitlock and Smith, as the two have a long and complicated history that goes back several years.

The ‘Fearless’ host proceeded to bring in Steve Kim as guest speaker, who dismissed both Curry and Smith as leaders who would be good for the country. “Stephen A. Smith, based on his history of fudging the truth and double talking, he might be the most qualified to actually run for public office” said Kim sarcastically. For the NBA player, the guest host said “Steph Curry, with the game on the line, he might be one of my first choices with that basketball but in terms of policymaking and decision, I don’t want any basketball player”.

Stephen Curry has seldom shied away from public service and has often done his part in providing a hand in the US political ecosystem. When former first lady Michelle Obama launched the “When We All Vote” campaign in order to increase voter registration, the NBA player chose to serve as its board member. Curry also made his voice heard during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and reportedly highlighted his support for racial equality and equal justice for all.

Unlike the four-time NBA champion, Stephen A. Smith has not made any noticeable contributions to the political spectrum. Rather, he has made use of his platform to reportedly call out the politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, on how they seem to be handling a certain situation. While the ESPN anchor is predominantly an expert on sports, he seldom shies away from outright stating his political takes.
