NBA player Patrick Beverley has created a reputation for being one of the most resilient defenders on the basketball court. Popularly known by his nickname of “Mr 94 Feet”, the player has made various varying efforts to ensure that his team gets an edge over their competitors during a game. An effort that he probably thought he never would have to make was to allegedly set his pride aside and patch things up with a former rival. Once he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, however, he knew that the time had come to foster some team unity.

A few hours ago, Patrick Beverley released another episode of his ‘The Pat Bev Pod with Rone’ show. Sitting alongside internet personality Adam Ferrone and former Cleveland Cavaliers player Richard Jefferson, Beverely discussed his long-standing feud with Damian Lillard. While he claimed that he never formed a feud with any other NBA player during his 7 years in the league, Lillard was a big exception to that claim. Despite the tension that existed between the two, Beverley stated that he made a decision to put all beef aside so that the duo and the rest of the Bucks could accomplish a goal that had been well out of their reach for quite some time now: winning an NBA championship.

The 35-year-old shooting guard recalled running into Dame at power forward Bobby Portis’ birthday party. As the two exchanged greetings, Beverley proposed that the duo should sit down and have a talk. As he recalled the tale to his co-hosts, the Bucks player expressed his belief that Lillard agreed to have a talk only because both of them now owe their allegiance to the same team. “Mind you, he sees me now, right? He sees me as a player, a co-worker,” said Beverley. “He sees me in a light he hasn’t seen me in before”.

When discussing how they would approach each game as teammates, Beverley recalled telling Dame to focus more on his long-range shots in order to give the team an edge. “Dame, all those 40-foot shots that you shoot, when we skeleton offense, you got to shoot that sh*t” Patrick Beverley recalls telling Lillard. “The team needs you to shoot that sh*t”.

Once Lillard made it clear that he would try his best to make things work, Beverley used the opportunity to highlight what should really matter to them during this season. “I don’t give a f**k what we’ve got going on. I’l try to win a championship bro” Beverley exclaimed.

The beef between Patrick Beverley and Damian Lillard had been going on for quite some time before the duo established a partnership as teammates. The origins of the same can be traced back to the 2020 NBA Bubble, when Lillard’s Portland Trail Blazers faced off against Beverley’s Los Angeles Clippers. After Lillard missed a couple of potential game-winning free throws, the then Lakers athlete, who was watching from the sidelines, mocked the player by copying his famous ‘Dame Time’ reaction.

Beverley’s one action morphed into a feud that would take different forms over the next few years. From on-court ‘chirping’ and more mockery to open disagreements on social media, the duo ensured that none of their true feelings towards each other should be a secret from the public eye.
