“We know they had their run last year, and they’re a new look with [Julius] Randle. But [Edwards is the] same man who’s trying to take strides with every opportunity he gets. I guess it’s gonna be a tough challenge,” said Stephen Curry going into the Warriors-Timberwolves series. ‘Tough challenge’ certainly seemed to be the correct way to describe how the 23-year-old shaped his game, leading the Timberwolves through a 4-1 series by delivering efficient shots and securing top scores. It was a testament to how the young star always continues to deliver. For any fans who needed to be reminded of just how efficient Edwards is in the postseason, Edwards did it for them by securing a historical feat.
According to reports, Edwards marked his 1,000th CAREER PLAYOFF POINT during Game 5 of the Warriors-Timberwolves series. The same occurred as less than 10 minutes remained in the 3rd quarter, and Minnesota led by 67-52. The young star made a 3-pointer, and the crowd at the Target Center briefly went wild. After all, with this feat, Edwards now joins Kevin Garnett as the only Minnesota Timberwolves player to score 1,000+ postseason points in franchise history. As if getting eliminated wasn’t enough, now the Warriors have to dread that their poor defense led to Edwards adding another record to his name.

The 23-year-old scored 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 12 assists during the game. Perhaps he wanted to lock down the achievement early on, which is why his 8-15 (53.3%) field goals, 5-9 (55.6%) 3-pointers, and 1-2 (50.0%) highlighted a better efficiency from the player than the previous games. Or, he might have just wanted to close the series down after a 3-1 lead. Nevertheless, the player accomplished a new record, and the Timberwolves secured a spot in the Conference Finals. The 121-110 win was so impressive that even Steve Kerr had to say that “I don’t want to take anything away from what Minnesota just accomplished. No sense in even talking about Steph.”
Anthony Edwards does not just leave a mark in the Timberwolves’ history book due to this feat, but also on the NBA’s book. After all, with this feat, he became just the 6th player in NBA history to surpass 1,000 career playoff points before turning 24 years old! The other people on this list include Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum. Each of those players won at least one championship ring throughout their career. With the Minnesota Timberwolves now heading to the Conference Finals after two 4-1 series, perhaps this could be Edwards’ year! Furthermore, all five of those players are either already enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, or are expected to be after they retire. Therefore, from the looks of things, Edwards certainly seems to be on the right course.
Similar records are lying in abundance for Anthony Edwards to achieve in the coming years. However, with the championship so close, the player is also setting his priorities.

Anthony Edwards answers for Rudy Gobert by claiming ‘no satisfaction’: “We just got here”
During the post-game presser, a reporter highlighted how this was a different ride to the Conference Finals as compared to last year. After all, the team had to fight for their spot in this tournament, winning only 49 games as compared to 56 in the 2023-24 regular season. Furthermore, it was the first time since the 2014-15 season when the Timberwolves were without Karl-Anthony Towns, and the duo of Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert had lost a member of their ‘Big 3’. Despite these challenges, the team reached the same stage where they were last year. However, knowing how things ended for them previously, Anthony Edwards is raising expectations.

“There is no satisfaction. We just got here, we haven’t did anything yet” said Edwards when it was Gobert who was asked if he feels satisfied with the Timberwolves’ current standing. “So, no. He’s not satisfied”.

Anthony Edwards already neutralized the Luka Doncic threat that prevented him from making the NBA Finals last year. Now, either the Denver Nuggets or the Oklahoma City Thunder will be the threat he will have to beat to get closer to the Larry O’Brien trophy. Both are formidable rivals, with Shai’s franchise only holding a 3-2 lead against Nikola Jokic and co in the yet-to-conclude series. Fortunately, the Timberwolves will once again get about 4-5 days’ worth of rest before the next game. That would be enough to fuel the 23-year-old to go beyond achieving just individual accolades.
