Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves went 3-1 up in their series against the Golden State Warriors tonight. Things are panning out the way a lot of people expected after Stephen Curry was sidelined with a hamstring issue in Game 1. But the Wolves’ hubris nearly cost them the game tonight. Well, before Chris Finch said to upset Ant and that led to the Warriors’ defeat.

The Minnesota Timberwolves seemed to be coasting for the first half of the game tonight, despite it being close. But then the third quarter happened; the Wolves outscored the Warriors 39-17. And despite a strong finish from the Dubs in the 4th, they simply could not close the massive gap. And after the game, Ant revealed how his coach’s words spurred the T-Wolves on to a dominant 3rd quarter.

“At halftime, Coach came in and just said, we’re playing like we already won the series pretty much. And, I don’t really like that. But I didn’t like how we was playing, overall, and I didn’t like how I was playing individually. So I know I had to pick it up,” said Ant-Man about how Chris Finch helped the Wolves.

But this acknowledgment went two ways, as Finch also gave Ant-Man credit for taking over after halftime. “Like, yeah, I think he was one of the guys that was most vocal at halftime and realized what was going on out there and how we needed to be better. So it started with him, really, and set the tone,” said Finch. And what a way Anthony Edwards chose to set the tone! Man scored three 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter, going  6-8 in those 12 minutes. And it rubbed off on his teammates as well.

The 3rd quarter started with the Dubs having a 2-point lead over the T-Wolves. But by the time the quarter ended, that lead had multiplied tenfold to twenty points. And of course, it was the Timberwolves who had the edge this time around. It was a really dominant quarter for the T-Wolves, where they ran the Dubs ragged and killed the game completely. By the final whistle, it didn’t even matter that the Warriors won the fourth quarter, 33-20.

Now, we know what helped the Timberwolves turn their fortunes around. But what went wrong for the Warriors? More specifically, what did the Wolves do to dominate them in that third quarter? Well, hear it from Edwards himself.

Anthony Edwards reveals what led to the Dubs getting destroyed after halftime

Now, Ant-Man was incredible in helping the Wolves seal the Dubs’ fate in this game. But according to Edwards himself, some simple game plan tweaks from Chris Finch were all it took for Minnesota to get the upper hand in this game.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Timberwolves expose the Warriors' weaknesses, or was it just luck without Curry on the court?

“We was letting Jonathan Kuminga just get everywhere he wanted to go. Draymond was pushing the pace. We wasn’t, impacting the ball unless he was crossing half court. Offensive rebounds, we wasn’t boxing out. We wasn’t limiting those guys to one shot. Just game plan mistakes that can’t happen if you wanna beat a championship team,” said Ant-Man.

And these changes certainly reflected in the third. Jonathan Kuminga went 4-5 from the field in the first half. But that number tanked to 6-11 by the end of the third. And he ended the game with 6-13 field goals. Clearly, the adjustments they made worked. But they can’t rely on making these adjustments on the fly for every game, and Ant knows that.

He also added how important it is that the Wolves avoid any lapses in their plans moving forward. “If you wanna go to the finals or Western Conference finals, at least. You can’t let those things happen, so we gotta be better,” he said. Based on how tonight’s game went, they certainly can be better.

But can they do it against teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Denver Nuggets? We will find out soon enough, but first, they need to make sure the Dubs are truly out of this series. And they can do that in Game 5. But a certain ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’ may end up foiling their plans if all goes well with his recovery!
