Timothee Chalamet has established himself as one of the most versatile young actors in the industry. However, as of late, he has also stirred up some buzz regarding his sports knowledge. And he supports his hometown team, the New York Knicks, with great passion. But when he sat at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse during their Game 4 battle against the Pacers, he pitched an idea that mixes both his profession and his hobby.

It was an innocent yet endearing link-up. Chalamet finally got to meet Ernie Johnson, the long-time host of Inside the NBA. After Ben Stiller introduced him to the revered analyst, the Dune star told Johnson about his intentions.

“I’m playing you in the biopic!” he told Johnson, who had a wide smile on his face.

This might suggest that a biopic is indeed in the making. However, as of right now, there is no documentary around the life of Ernie Johnson (maybe many want it now). And Timothee Chalamet won’t be playing the role he has longed to portray on the screen. However, something good did come from their conversation.

Ernie Johnson was touched by Chalamet’s previous comments and let him know about the impact it had on his life. “You’ve made me the coolest grandpa of all time,” said the 68-year-old. With five grandchildren, getting a nod from Timothee Chalamet made him a star in their eyes.

To Johnson, his family is a vital part of his day-to-day life. More importantly, he loved spending time with his five grandchildren, regularly sharing adorable moments on his social media. So, although there is no biopic being made right now, for Ernie Johnson, just the mere mention has provided him with a bundle of joy.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Timothee Chalamet's charm bring Ernie Johnson's story to life, or is it just a fun fantasy?

Have an interesting take?

But this makes you think, when did this all start?

How did this all begin?

Chalamet likes to test himself when he takes on new parts. In Dune, it was an intense character seeking understanding of his life. Then, in a complete switch, he played the role of singer Bob Dylan in the biopic ‘The Complete Unknown’. It took him five years of relentless practice and preparation to master the role.

Still, he seemed to enjoy it. That’s when one radio host asked him if there was another individual he could portray in a biopic, what would his choice be? Chalamet thought for a few seconds. And confidently he answered, “What about the Ernie Johnson biopic, the host of Inside the NBA?” on The Morning Mash Up. Host Ryan Sampson endorsed the idea, saying, “I like that,”. From that point on, the saga began.

Timothee Chalamet feared “he might already have a short list of people that I’m not on.” However, once Inside the NBA caught wind of the clip, they didn’t waste any time presenting it to Ernie Johnson. At first, Ernie couldn’t believe it and admitted he thought it was “so funny.”

That wasn’t all—Johnson followed it up with a hilariously self-deprecating take. “I thought, Gee, if it took him five years to master Bob Dylan, it’s going to take him about five minutes to see how boring I am and say, ‘I got this part nailed,’” he joked, drawing laughs with his signature wit.

But beyond the humor, Ernie’s reaction to Chalamet’s shoutout was nothing short of heartwarming. Clearly amused and flattered, the beloved Inside the NBA host shared that the moment made him “a hero with my kids and grandkids.” When he first heard the news live on air, Ernie lit up with a grin and playfully said, “Timothee, call me. Call me, let’s talk,” expressing genuine enthusiasm for the unexpected connection.

So it seems set. There is no biopic happening right away. But if Ernie Johnson’s pristine career does hit the screens, you can expect Timothee Chalamet to do his best EJ’s Neato Stat of The Night.
