Can you truly let go of habits? No, not really. You can force the changes, but that wouldn’t be helpful. Take Ja Morant, for example. Earlier in the 2024-25 season, the 26-year-old Memphis Grizzlies star announced that he won’t be dunking much. And the number of crazy dunks did drop. But what if the point guard is changing his mind?
Well, Scotty Pippen Jr. knows the answer to all your curious questions. Joining Lou Williams & Co. on Run It Back, the 24-year-old guard shared some really interesting news. But before that, he talked about Ja Morant’s impact. “What are some of the intangibles that you’ve picked up from Ja behind the scenes?” Lou asked.
“Just watching him. I feel like he’s one of the most talented guards in the league. Seeing how he plays in the pick and roll, seeing what I could take away from his game,” Scotty Pippen Jr. said of Morant. “Obviously, I’m not as athletic as him, but I still try to see what he does on the court, how he moves on the court. I feel like his passing is one of his most underrated abilities, so I’m just trying to take stuff from that.”

Now, Chandler Parsons flickered the flames to the most-awaited information, and that is when Ja Morant will make it to the Dunk Contest. “Like, is there something that you’ve seen that the world has not, because the dude has bounce?” he asked. “He has crazy bounce,” Pippen admitted. “He said he might do it [Dunk Contest] next year, so I don’t want to spoil anything he’s done. I feel like we should just build some hype around that. He’s got to. Maybe we’ll see him do something next year.”

After Mac McClung’s 3rd consecutive Dunk Contest title in the NBA All-Star weekend this year, Morant took to his social media to call Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon to bring back their dunking presence, “mac might make me decide to dunk,”. So, was that the beginning of something that awaits the dawn? Maybe, who knows? Meanwhile, the NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, is cooking something interesting.
