The West has been in chaos. From buzzer beaters to blowouts, the 2024-25 season chewed up everyone in its path. Now, all eyes are locked on Paycom Center. On one side, the Timberwolves are hungry. On the other hand, the Thunder are bringing the storm. But just as things heat up, an iconic name crashes the moment– Julius Randle.
Throughout the first and second rounds of the playoff series, Randle has stolen the show, maybe a bit more than Anthony Edwards on certain occasions. Averaging 23.9 ppg, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in the postseason, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ star is ready to face OKC. Meanwhile, he shared a rare encounter with Draymond Green with the media during the shootaround.
“ I’m excited. I just have a really great appreciation for these things, cherishing these moments; I actually told Draymond the other day—we were done playing—but I told him I had a lot of respect for those guys and their team,” Julis Randle confessed. The 30-year-old forward was most likely talking about the post-game scenes in Game 5 vs. the Warriors.

Julius Randle, after reaching the conference finals for the first time in his 11-year career, spoke about the appreciation for the grind it takes to get here. “You see guys on their second vacation [by now] … It’s cool to be one of the last four teams playing basketball” pic.twitter.com/0mapCEvULS

He added, “A lot of respect for him. I was thinking about it after we won our third game of the series in San Francisco, and I’m like, this is a grind. You get to this point in the season, it’s really a grind. You see guys already on their second vacation, or they’re starting to train and get ready for the season, or whatever it is. And I’m like, man, y’all have done this year after year after year. So all the respect in the world to those guys. For me, being here for the first time, it’s been a grind to get here personally. I’m just enjoying the moment, having fun with it, taking it all in.”
Julius Randle is in his feels, and rightfully so. After winning Game 3 in San Francisco, it hit him—this is no cakewalk. While others are sipping cocktails on vacation, he is still in the trenches. For him, this grind is brand new. Having spent 6 seasons with the Knicks, the All-Star forward hasn’t experienced the joy of such a deep playoff run. So it is beautiful. Raw. Real. “My family’s having fun, and it’s just cool to be one of the last four teams playing basketball at this time of the year. You gotta appreciate it and leave everything out there.” And with his family riding every moment, he is not letting it slip by.
However, just when it seems the spotlight belongs solely to Randle, another compelling story starts to take shape. Meanwhile, this one brings in family ties, a dash of hometown pride, and the fire of a rising star. Enter Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker. As the Thunder prepare for battle, his family is not merely watching from the sidelines. Instead, they are stepping into the spotlight and making headlines of their own.

Amidst Julius Randle’s confession, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s family makes some noise
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are more than cousins—they are basketball soulmates. Born just 52 days apart, they shared beds, dreams, and even heartbreaks. From Canada to Tennessee, their bond only grew deeper. They lived together, trained together, and chased the same dream side by side. So when they reunited for Team Canada in 2023, the chemistry was magic. Childhood memories turned into grown-man victories. But now they are about to turn into rivals on the court as Nickeil will don his Wolves jersey against Shai’s Thunder.
Thus, speaking to the media, the Wolves star shared how the situation has been in the family lately. “After I think it was Sunday, my mom called me and told me she texted his dad saying, ‘Oh, it’s war now.’ You know, it’s all love at the end of the day, but it’s really cool. It’s a really cool feeling.”

Alexander-Walker added, “Especially when I go on my phone, it’s the only thing I see, especially from my friends and family back home. I think 10 years from now, 20 years from now, I’ll be able to really appreciate the moment for what it was and what we were able to accomplish. And right now, the only thing I care about is making sure the Wolves get four wins.”
