The New York Knicks decimated the reigning champions, the Boston Celtics, at the TF Garden tonight. The game ended 119-81 as four of the Knicks players bagged over twenty points tonight during the dominant display. Among them was their big man, Karl-Anthony Towns, who dropped a double-double. But it wasn’t his performance that caught the fans’ attention.
KAT scored 21 points and grabbed 12 boards in Game 6 to help bounce the Celtics tonight. So, what could have possibly distracted fans from this elite display and the Knicks making history? After all, this is their first Eastern Conference Final in 25 years! We know Stephen A. Smith won’t talk about anything else for the rest of this month. So what’s up with the fans? Well, unsurprisingly, it was the way he was talking during his post-game interview that caught fans off guard.
“You know, to all my brothers that was with me at Rucker Park, all the brothers that was with me in all those AU games and Tri-State, especially in New York. I dedicate to this to them,” said Karl. Nothing weird about what he said, right? Well, it wasn’t what he said, but the way he said it. Karl’s words left his mouth, accompanied by a thick New York accent.

Now, as someone who was born and brought up in the Tri-State area, it’s not a stretch to believe the vestiges of his time in Newark remained. And before you ask, yes, Karl-Anthony Towns was born and raised across the Hudson in New Jersey. But given his fails over the years, the internet was not at all forgiving.
Fans online, especially on X, tore the 29-year-old to shreds for his accent during the interview. Here are some of the best reactions we found.

Fans tear apart Karl-Anthony Towns online for his accent during post-game interview as the Knicks reach Eastern Conference Finals
Fans didn’t take it easy on Karl after hearing his “new” accent. “Is this real?” questioned one fan as another asked, “Does he have a NY accent all the sudden?” Now, KAT could have had one all along, and this might’ve just been the first instance of it slipping out during an interview. But after 9 years in the league, that theory doesn’t seem all that plausible.
What’s your perspective on:
Did Karl-Anthony Towns' New York accent steal the spotlight from the Knicks' historic win?
Have an interesting take?
And some keen fans even pointed out what was so off about the way the Knicks’ big man talked. “He DOES NOT say Park and NEW YOWK like that normally lmfaooo,” wrote a discerning fan. Another member of the community simply pointed out the phonetics, writing, “Ruckah pahk” and “New yawk.” It’s certainly odd once you see it put bluntly like this. The New York accent is definitely unique in its inflections. And it’s really difficult not to notice when someone talks in this accent!

But not everyone trolled KAT for his accent. Some simply appreciated how unintentionally funny he is. “He is so funny without trying🤣,” wrote one fan of his. “love kat bro… It’s not intentional but he just be doing random ish,” wrote another appreciating Towns’ penchant for being random and accidentally hilarious. And it’s undeniable that we’ve gotten some hilarious moments over the years.
