It’s safe to say that Brooklyn’s super team didn’t pay off quite as expected. So much so that neither of Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving would hesitate to remove that time from their memory. KD’s 4 seasons had 4 straight playoff appearances- something the Nets fans would sacrifice their left arm for right now. But they never even went past the semis with their supposed “super team”. And Durant’s decision to choose them over rivals Knicks probably still haunts him to this day. Today was the day he chose to take a step against those nightmares.

Nets’ insider Anthony Puccio had this to say on X: “The best thing that ever happened for the Knicks was KD and Kyrie choosing Brooklyn. It took time, but they were forced to restructure and build out organically.” But the terms “organic” in professional sports seems contradictory.

The word has lost all value. And Durant was the first to highlight this in his reply, when he said this: “I don’t think the Knicks success has anything to do with me or Kyrie. An Organic nba team, what does that even mean in professional sports?” Kevin Durant’s X page is quite interesting, to say the least. His TL is littered with conversations with fans, and never hesitates to speak his mind. And on this occassion, the future Hall of Famer was quick to do the same. Fans thought he was to blame for the Nets downfall with Kyrie that coincided with the rise of the Knicks. But do you know the apt word for those fans? KD does- it’s “salty”.

“He’s just salty cuz the nets didn’t work out and he’s jealous that the Knicks fans are having fun while nets fans arent, so u know they gonna blame me and Kai for taking their joy away lol,” wrote the Grim Reaper, speaking about Puccio.

It’s just the adverse affect of being one of the GOATs. When things don’t align for the team, the stars are the first on the chopping block. For the Nets fans, this seems like the only way of dealing with the woes of their failed super team. Now, they finished 11th in the West, and look forward to a rebuilding era. Will the rebuild include a move for Durant? After seeing their history together, probably not. But his uncertain future has coughed up the rumor mill to work overtime regardless.

Kevin Durant’s uncertain future: Where will the Suns star go?

Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s uncertain futures might shape up this off-season to be one of the best in a long time. There’s no shortage of teams gunning for their signatures. But the most likely ones will be the ones looking for short term success, looking to add firepower to their squads. The Suns will be looking to offload KD’s heavy salary, and will be looking for some spicy trade picks and assets. They have no control over their draft picks for the decade, and are stuck in the second apron with a horrific Bradley Beal contract with a no-trade clause. So, where will Kevin Durant go?

What’s your perspective on:

Is the idea of an 'organic' NBA team just a myth in today's professional sports?

Have an interesting take?

The team that best fits this description is the San Antonio Spurs. Granted that they ended the season with a terrible 13th position. But their young and brimming team is aided with a flexible salary cap, valuable trade picks, and the need for some experience. Anyone seeing the coincidence? Durant and the Suns would love for this to go down. This idea would see the likes of Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, and Jeremy Sochan go to Phoenix with the 14th pick in this year’s draft.

But they’re not the only Texan team in the convo. In fact, a move to the Rockets fit the bill better for all parties involved. They finished 2nd this season, with a strong young core that’s screaming for some experienced firepower. But Durant’s advanced age might not fit Ime Udoka’s plans for a sustainable future.

It’s safe to remember that these are all just ideas and possibilities. Until the season ends, the Grim Reaper’s grim future remains uncertain. But he will be hoping the teams don’t see his time at the Nets to be the ultimatum. They did fail in their attempt at a super team, but to call that either of his or Kyrie Irving’s faults is just scraping the bottom of the barrel to cope with a wretched timeline.
