It’s been a troubling week or so for the Boston Celtics. Tonight, they went 3-1 down against the Knicks. But their issues aren’t limited to the court. At the start of their series against the Knicks, we learned that Kristaps Porzingis had come down with a mystery illness. And after Game 4, he’s given us an ambiguous update about his condition. Even as one of his teammates struggles with fitness issues of his own. And now, the Celtics have two players whose health they need to worry about.

Kristaps played a combined 27 minutes in Games 1 and 2 against the Celtics. It was clear that he wasn’t 100% in those games. And tonight, after the game, KP revealed how he’s been feeling recently and the changes to his lifestyle that this mystery illness has brought. And the update he gave us, it was odd, to say the least.

“It’s super weird. Heavy fatigue. Heavy fatigue just to my muscles. Like so, yeah. I mean, I’ve done, like, try to do everything perfect…Going to bed early it’s just because the energy just wasn’t there. So super weird for me, and never experienced this in my life. But, yeah, it’s a new experience for me,” said Kristaps. This illness brought a slew of changes to his lifestyle, like changing his sleep cycle and getting on immunity boosters. But before he told us about his weird new experience, he revealed that things were finally getting better for him.

“Today was [the] first day I felt decent, honestly. Just everything. Just my energy. I was a bit more, like, uplifted, and, just, yeah, just maybe didn’t have my best game, anyway. But energy was good, and I felt I could go a bit more up and down. So that’s positive,” said the Latvian star. And Kristaps feeling better will come as a huge relief to the Boston Celtics, even if they didn’t come away with the win tonight.

That’s because Jayson Tatum seemed to suffer a terrible injury as he was unable to leave the court on his own tonight. Sadly, we don’t know yet whether Tatum suffered an injury to his ankle or his Achilles tendon. But Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla did tell us that Tatum will undergo an MRI tomorrow.

So, it’s likely we’ll find out what’s wrong with JT tomorrow. However, we won’t learn what’s wrong with Kristaps Porzingis despite receiving this “weird” yet positive update from the Latvian star himself. That’s because an ESPN insider revealed that not even the Celtics, working with the best of the best doctors in Boston, know what’s up with Kristaps.

Brian Windhorst says no one knows what ails Kristaps Porzingis

Health issues aren’t uncommon for athletes, even at the highest level. Given what the game demands of their bodies, a few injuries and illnesses will eventually pop up here and there. But things get worrying when no one can identify the issue. And that’s exactly the problem faced by Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kristaps Porzingis' mystery illness the Celtics' Achilles' heel in this series?

Have an interesting take?

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, despite being one of the world’s leading medical cities, no doctor in Boston has figured out what’s ailing Kristaps Porzingis. And the Celtics have REALLY tried. “I promise you, every good doctor whom they could consult, I’m sure, has been brought in on this. They don’t know what it is, or if they know what it is, they’re not being able to correct it,” said Windy.

Yes, even globally renowned medical facilities like Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital have no answers for the Celtics. And after the injury to Tatum, this issue has only worsened. Now, Kristaps switching up his sleep cycle and getting the necessary rest seems to have helped things.

Even so, the Celtics and Kristaps will have a sword hanging over their head until they tackle this issue at its roots. Till then, prayers and precautions are the only way forward for the Celtics. That said, they now trail the Knicks 3-1 in their series. So the Celtics may end up getting all the time in the world if they crash out of the Playoffs!
