It has been a forgettable season for the Milwaukee Bucks and their fans. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. entered this season with a lot of expectations, only for them to be disappointed in the end. The Bucks struggled during the start of the regular season, but then picked up momentum and even won the in-season NBA tournament. This led many to believe that the duo of Giannis and Damian Lillard might achieve what they were expected to: win the NBA championship. However, tragedy struck soon with Damian Lillard suffering a serious blood clot that caused him to miss the final stretch of the regular season.
The Bucks’ point guard did return for their re-match in the first round against the Indiana Pacers. But it was not to be as Lillard tore his ACL, ending both his and the Bucks’ season in the first round. Now, with Lillard set to miss a major portion of next season, rumors about the Greek Freak’s trade have started to gain traction. Many also believe that Giannis himself might ask for a trade pretty soon. But his teammate has cleared the air, or so it seems.
While on FanDuel TV’s show ‘Run It Back‘, Bobby Portis Jr. revealed his thoughts on the rumors floating around the league. “Giannis bleeds green. I think he bleeds loyalty, I think he bleeds wanting that Tim Duncan, Kobe, type career, Steph Curry type career where they play with one franchise.” Portis Jr. said.

Giannis’ teammate compared him to the likes of Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan, as he said that Antetokounmpo wants to play for one team for his entire career. He also pointed out a huge problem for teams looking to land the Milwaukee superstar. He believes that the forward’s massive salary will not attract a lot of teams.

“Like, if you trade for him, just looking at business-wise, you trade for him, obviously, he’s going to make, what, 58-60 million dollars. I mean, you’ve got to trade your whole team, right? You’ve got to trade your whole team. You’ve got to trade your whole team. And then being able to get him, you know, you still have to put players around him to compete for a championship, right? So it’s like, whoever, if you do make a move, you might be in the same position that the Bucks are in.” Portis Jr. further emphasized.
Indeed, Bobby Portis Jr.’s view is correct. The teams that want to accommodate Giannis Antetokounmpo will have to give up a lot of flexibility. In fact, they will have to give up several of their rotational pieces as the former MVP is set to make around $54.1 million next season. It could cause the team to end up in the same position as the Bucks, according to Portis Jr.

Bobby Portis Jr. talks about Milwaukee’s future trade plans
The Giannis Antetokounmpo situation isn’t just going to affect the Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar. On the contrary, a lot depends on the Greek star’s decision. One such decision will be of Bobby Portis Jr.’s future. The 30-year-old big man has just one more season left on his contract, which is for the upcoming season.
After it, Portis Jr. is set to enter unrestricted free agency. So, a huge offseason awaits the Milwaukee forward. He revealed that a lot will depend on how the front office approaches the Giannis trade situation.
Bobby Portis on his player option with the Bucks this offseason:
“How does someone that’s the GM of the team look at the team losing 3-straight years in the first round? … I would love to be in Milwaukee…they call me the mayor.”@BPortistime | @MichelleDBeadle | @TeamLou23 pic.twitter.com/Q6qlUFtwfn

He expressed his feelings about playing in Milwaukee and stated he’s been really happy in the five seasons he’s spent there. However, whether he gets a new deal depends on the front office, according to Bobby Portis Jr.
“So being, you know, complete, you know, honest right here. Like, if you’re looking at business-wise, like, how does someone that’s the GM of the team look at the team losing three straight years in the first round? So it all depends on how everything shakes up. I would love to be in Milwaukee. I love it here,” he stated. He suggests the past two seasons have been disappointing, and that might cause a massive stir in the franchise.
So, he’ll have to wait and watch how everything pans out ahead of the next season.

“It’s going to be up in the air with how they, you know, with the roster, whatever they want to bring back. It’s really going to be all on the organization to, you know, want to bring, you know, certain guys back, whatever it is.” He added.
Portis Jr. indicated that with Lillard’s injury and the team’s failure, things are much more complex than before. If you also take into consideration Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade talks, it becomes even harder to say anything about who’s going to stay and who’s going to leave.
As things stand, Milwaukee is in limbo, and it will be interesting to see thet moves the front office makes as Bobby Portis Jr. and Giannis’ future remain undecided.
