It’s been an injury-riddled season for Stephen Curry so far. In November 2024, he struggled with knee issues. Then Steph injured his thumb, an injury that he’s still dealing with. And finally now, in Game 1 of the second-round Playoff series against Minnesota, Stephen Curry strained his left hamstring. Steph headed to the locker room in the second quarter after playing only 13 minutes in the game. Soon, we learned he would not be coming back out. And apart from Steve Kerr revealing that the Dubs saw Steph’s status as “day-to-day,” we didn’t learn much about his injury. That is, until now.
Like Kerr said, the Dubs conducted an MRI on Steph to assess the severity of his injury. But what has this test unearthed?

Golden State Warriors Injury Report – Will Stephen Curry play in Game 2?
Sorry to break your hearts, Dub Nation, but the MRI conducted on Steph Curry did not yield positive results. Especially when the Warriors are going up against a team that just bounced Luka and LeBron in 5 games. The MRI revealed that Stephen Curry has a mild strain in his left hamstring. The recovery for a soft-tissue injury like this takes around a week. So, Steph will likely miss the next three games of this series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
And that’s why Stephen Curry is listed as OUT on the Dubs’ injury report. While it’s not the worst-case scenario for the Dubs, this is still really bad news. A series against Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert without their best player doesn’t bode well for the Dubs.
However, Gary Payton II’s return to the squad will be a slight silver lining for the Dubs. After battling an illness during the last game of the Houston Rockets series, he played 26 minutes in Game 1 against the T-Wolves. And that’s why he’s listed as AVAILABLE on the Dubs’ injury report. However, he’s still dealing with a left thumb injury. So Payton will sport a splint on it during Game 2 against Minnesota.
But Payton’s return aside, this injury report has only brought ill tidings to the Dub Nation. And now, they must cope without him till Game 5, which naturally leads to ask…

Can the Golden State Warriors get past the Minnesota Timberwolves without Steph?
Despite Steph’s absence in Game 1, the Golden State Warriors did well to hold down the fort against the Wolves. Of course, having Jimmy Butler helped. He contributed a lot, ending Game 1 with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and just two assists shy of a triple-double. But it wasn’t just playoff Jimmy who showed up for the Dubs in their last game.
The duo of Draymond Green and Buddy Hield stepped up massively to ensure the Dubs didn’t lose the lead they’d gained while Steph was on the court. Hield continued his hot streak from Game 7 as he went 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc. And Draymond wasn’t far behind Buddy with 4 out of his 10 3-point attempts finding their mark. Moreover, the Dubs’ bench also brought the goods as they combined to put 21 points past the Timberwolves.

“It was beautiful to see,” said Green after the game. He’s not wrong. It was indeed beautiful seeing everyone rise to the occasion in Curry’s absence. So, to answer the question we posed… Yes, the Dubs can absolutely get it done in this series without Steph. But they’ll need to ensure two things. First, they need to stop Ant-Man from gathering steam and taking over the game. Second, the Warriors’ role players need to answer the call and deliver in the games where the Baby-Faced Assassin misses.
