The Memphis Grizzlies have, for the longest have, been patient with Ja Morant with hopes that he might turn things around one day. However, the latest one-game suspension might’ve been the final straw in the franchise’s relationship with the two-time All-Star point guard. This is not what we just think; former NBA star and Indiana Pacers icon, Reggie Miller, also shares this thought.

The Grizzlies front office has had the 26-year-old’s back until now, as it looks like there’s no going back after his recent fallout with first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo. The general perception around the league is that Morant’s days in Memphis are limited. In fact, reportedly, teams across the league are closely monitoring developments around the point guard.
Amid all of this chaos, Reggie Miller believes that the Grizzlies should start making some calls. But the question is, who would want Ja Morant? More so, with all the off-court stuff that comes with him. Well, Miller also has an explanation for that. “There’ll be a lot of teams that would want Ja Morant,” the Pacers legend told Dan Patrick on his podcast.

Then the host questioned Miller whether he’d trade the Grizzlies’ point guard in exchange for the Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young. His reply? Well, he said, “I would seriously think about it.” As he went on to point out, if he represented the Hawks, he’d probably be hesitant, but if he was on Memphis’ side, he’d do without skipping a heartbeat because “Trae Young is a walking double-double.”
The NBA on NBC analyst suggested that the Grizzlies should cut ties with Morant if Young is what they are getting in exchange. Well, it isn’t a bad shout from Miller, as Young is also unsettled at Atlanta. The 27-year-old is yet to be offered an extension on his five-year $215 million deal, which only has a player option year left on it. So, he could be a great addition for Memphis.

More so, given his elite production, just this season alone, Trae Young is averaging a solid 17.8 points along with 2 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game. So it’s safe to say that Young would be a great replacement for Ja Morant if the Grizzlies were to trade their star point guard. Now, whether they do so or not, another story. But, after Ja Morant’s latest statement, they should certainly view their options.

Ja Morant has lost his ‘joy’ of playing basketball in Memphis
Although many believed that after serving his one-game suspension, when Ja Morant returned to the court against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, things would change for the better. However, they didn’t. On the contrary, it seems like the relationship between the coaching staff and the point guard further deteriorated during their loss against the Pistons.
After scoring 18 points on 5-of-16 from the field, if there were any doubts that the two-time All-Star guard was having a bad time, he himself confirmed it. When asked whether things between him and the coaching staff had been cleared up, Morant simply declined to give his own answer. “Ya’ll asked that question to them, right? So ya’ll know the answer to that,” he told the reporters.

Then, when a reporter questioned him about whether he was happy on his return and enjoyed his time on the court, he said, “No.” The Memphis Grizzlies star answered much similarly to that of Jimmy Butler during his final days as a Miami Heat player. Further, when asked about what can be done to bring his joy back, he replied, “We’ll see.”

So by the looks of it, the rift between Ja Morant and the coaching staff has only grown further in the past few days. In fact, his answers post-game might have just indicated that his days in Memphis are similar to what many think are limited in numbers. Now, where will the 26-year-old go from here in the NBA? That’s something which will be worth watching in the coming days.
