The Philadelphia 76ers are on an eventful start in this season. Currently ranked 4th, they are the top seeders in the Eastern Conference with a 16-7 record. Philly couldn’t pass the conference semifinals in their last three seasons. But a lot has changed now. Nick Nurse, who beat the Sixers while coaching 2019 champions Raptors, has replaced Doc Rivers. A large part of this season’s success goes to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, who are possibly the best duo in the league. How far they can go in this season will depend on how other players are at their highest level. 

Tobias Harris is capitalizing on the Embiid-Maxey wave. Harris is a wild card who can swing games for Philly in the playoff rounds. 

Tobias is riding on Philly’s success 

Philly power forward Tobias Harris is having a breakout season since his highest 2020-21 season mark. Embiid-Maxey are the power engines, and Harris is a wild card on offense. When Embiid-Maxey is not on the court, Harris is stepping up as a featured scorer. On average, he is putting up 17 points and grabbing 6.1 rebounds in a game. That’s a sustainable production stat post-Harden era. 

At least, this is what Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer has to suggest: “I don’t see [the Sixers trading Tobias Harris] at this moment because Harris would be hard to replace. Plus, the Sixers will need the power forward to play at a high level to win a championship. Harris has to score 15 to 20 points a game in the postseason. So it’s hard to get rid of someone that important to the team’s success.”

Harris is a free agent, so for him, this season could give him more leverage for the long run and a better contract with the Sixers. As a PF, he has the potential to complement the Embiid-Maxey duo, who are putting up astounding numbers statistically. On average, they are both putting together 59.9 points per game. This duo is topping not just the league but is currently at an all-time historical record.
