A few teams have had a disappointing season, helplessly losing a flurry of games. One of them is the Detroit Pistons. In fact, they have had the most disappointing season with a 2-26 record. The San Antonio Spurs also had a long worrying losing streak, but they snapped it after the 18th game. However, the Pistons’ case has been worse, as they are only two games away from breaking the NBA record for the biggest losing streak in the league’s history. And it didn’t sit well with the fans as they took an infamous route during the Thursday night game.

The last time when the Pistons qualified for the post-season was in the 2018-19 season, after they ended the regular season at the 8th seed with a 41-41 record. Since then, the team hasn’t worked their way above the 13th seed. The worries transcended to the current season as well, but this time they have gone to a new low, losing 25 games in a row.

3x NBA Champions Pistons have had an underwhelming two decades since their last ring in 2004. This team attained wide popularity for its aggressive nature on the court in the late 1980s. The birth of ‘Bad Boys’ led them to two consecutive rings in 1989 and 1990. Despite having a strong history, the franchise has lost its track in recent times. Now the disappointed fans want to sell the $3.8 billion-worth team.

The home team’s frustration reflected on the game as they started angry chants. Some of the fans masked themselves with food cover and wrote ‘Sell the team’ on it. On the other hand, a massive section of fans in the arena chanted, “Sell the team,” in chorus. The Pistons players were seen burying their faces in their palms amid the violent crowd chants.

The Pistons fans have a history of violence in the past. Two decades ago, the infamous ‘Malice at the Palace’ is an example. In 2004, Pacers star Ron Artest engaged in a brawl with a few Pistons fans on the court after a fan threw a beer can on him, reported Clickondetroit. The Thursday night game against Utah Jazz could have taken a similar route, but thankfully, there wasn’t any trigger to ignite the angry Pistons fans.

The Pistons had the opportunity to snap their losing streak against the handicapped Jazz on Thursday night. The Jazz played without their star players like Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, Keyonte George, and Talen Horton-Tucker, but unfortunately left the game with a 111-119 loss.

Will they evade the embarrassment of breaking the record for the longest losing streak in a season?

Pistons on the road to another embarrassment

Currently, the record for the longest losing streak in a season is jointly held by the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers with 26 games. And the Sixers hold the record for longest losing streak with 28 games, after losing the first two games of the next season.

In the Pistons’ case, they are just one game away from equally the record and two games away from breaking the record. The Spurs fortunately evaded the embarrassment after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers after their 18-game losing streak.

Following the game, Cade Cunningham couldn’t believe that the team reached this stage, and hoped to turn things around. They have both their next two games scheduled against the in-form Brooklyn Nets and they are a high possibility for the Pistons to break the record.
