The Golden State Warriors have been making new strategic roster moves once again in this off-season. Led by sharpshooter Stephen Curry, the team has always been keen on adding depth and experience to their line-up. This year is no different, as they’ve been involved in numerous trade talks and free-agent signings. This year in July the Warriors acquired 12-time NBA All-Star guard Chris Paul in a multi-player deal.

The trade was a bit of a surprise. Warriors had just won the 2023 NBA championship with their young core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Jordan Poole. However, they were looking for a veteran point guard who could help them manage Curry’s minutes and provide some leadership in the locker room. And, CP3 fit the bill. Additionally, the team was also interested in Dwight Howard, but they have passed on to this idea. Their recent move involves a free agent of one-year signing.

Even after bringing in CP3, the Warriors didn’t stop their pursuit of adding depth to their roster. In a recent move, the Warriors have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent forward Rudy Gay. This will be Gay’s 18th season in the NBA, and he brings a wealth of experience and versatility to the Warriors’ lineup. He will compete for the team’s open roster spot in the camp.

Dwight Howard trade that didn’t go through

Earlier this year, the Warriors were in talks with veteran center Dwight Howard. Howard, a former NBA champion and eight-time All-Star, was seen as a potential addition to the Warriors’ frontcourt. However, the Warriors eventually decided against signing Howard.

This decision was puzzling, as Howard’s experience seemed to be a good fit for the Warriors’ system. But it seems the addition of another veteran Rudy Gay has sufficed to what the Warriors were looking for. With the new NBA season just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how these off-season moves play out on the court.
