Russell Westbrook’s “Sacrifice” Gets Lauded by Clippers Fans in Rockets Matchup

There were doubts when the Los Angeles Clippers went ahead and traded for James Harden. While many still believed that it would benefit the Clippers, now that buzz has quickly died down. The Clippers have lost their last six games in a row, which included five of them that had James Harden in the starting lineup.

It was a predicament that the Clippers front office had to get on top of. Luckily, their starting point guard, Russell Westbrook became the sacrificial lamb. And during the Rockets matchup, Brodie got a standing ovation because of it.

Too many cooks in the kitchen tend to ruin things eventually. Which is exactly what happened when the Clippers decided to start four All-Stars together in their starting lineup. The team has not won a game since this new lineup came into play. Leading Russell Westbrook to be the bigger man.

Westbrook came forward and volunteered to come off the bench in the hopes of improving his team’s play on the floor. In the latest matchup against the Houston Rockets, Westbrook got a big ovation from the crowd as he checked into the game for the first time off the bench.

Not just the crowd but head coach Tyronn Lue sang huge praises of Westbrook’s move, putting his ego aside and thinking of the team first.

Russell Westbrook had been the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers since he came to the franchise. Westbrook, even though past his prime, did a great job nonetheless in facilitating the ball around.

He scored when the team’s two stars struggled and also helped out on defense and rebounding. But it is his effort and energy that is something that cannot be presented in stats and certainly cannot be overlooked.

With Russell Westbrook coming off the bench, head coach Tyronn Lue chose to start Terrence Mann in his position instead. Mann is expected to run the team’s offense with a pass-first mentality.

It would be interesting to see how the team, moreover, how James Harden performs with more control over the ball instead of playing off it. Also, another concerning a question that may arise is; what if this does not work out?

What would the Clippers do if, even after bringing Westbrook off the bench and giving Harden more control over the ball, things do not pan out? Let’s see if the Clippers can take care of the Rockets who seem to be on a six-game winning streak, looking to make it seven.
