The podcast invites listeners to call in with their ‘crazy’ stories and problems; one such listener came on with a question that sparked a conversation about women’s attire nowadays. The conversation took a sharp turn when McDaniel expressed her strong concern over scantily clad outfits in today’s time. “Nowadays, more than ever, women are just naked,” she claimed, expressing her disapproval while continuing, “How do you expect anybody to have any respect for you? Your outfit is disrespectful.”

The discussion got more complex as April raised the possibility of impacting impressionable minds. Many young girls look up to influential figures like James. “What about all the little girls that watch your every move?” McDaniel asked. Savannah James then expressed her commitment to upholding certain values she feels strongly about, especially as a mother to her 9-year-old daughter Zhuri. “I have a daughter, and I would never,” James affirmed.

She went on to say, “It’s only so far I would go, I feel like I’m a very confident, body-positive woman, so sometimes it’s going to give a little bit more risqué. But it’s always going to give mystery and class at the same time.” Zhuri looks up to her mom; in an interview with People, Savannah talked about how her daughter ‘watches’ her and even said, “Mom, I want to be like you.” She then spoke about how she attaches these choices to the feeling of liberation.

Modesty and empowerment: James’ take on women’s fashion

Savannah James, however, also offered a different and more nuanced perspective to her co-host, underscoring the feeling of liberation in clothing choices. She felt that it had more to do with liberation and how women have started choosing to wear whatever they want, “whether it’s naked or not.” Moreover, she emphasized the importance of individual freedom and self-expression in choosing one’s outfit, irrespective of gender.
