Lakers command the loyalties of some of the finest Hollywood A-listers. LeBron playing for a Miami or a Cleveland team differs from playing for the Lakers. When you play for the LaLa land team, you hobnob with the likes of Jack Nicholson, Adam Sandler, or who’s who of the music industry. Lately, however, a basketball league on a streaming platform commands the exact same kind of, if not more, glitz and glamour.

It was Sean Combs’s signature.

Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, came up with an Indoor Basketball event called the Crew League in 2021. This league tries to replicate the streetball culture, with its unique set of rules. Diddy, along with his producer, Elie Maroun, came up with this basketball concept for Revolt TV, a streaming platform. Hip-hop artists lead the teams in this league and have players from different avenues. Players from the NBA G League, from Junior League and several street ball legends play for the teams.

NBA all-star Dwight Howard, and multiple-time ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ award winner Lou Williams, were in attendance to witness the high-tempo games of this spectacle. Players who wouldn’t get recognition otherwise are getting opportunities to showcase their talent in front of these NBA legends. Multiple seasons are already in the books. This league can only grow from here.

Ice Cube, the visionary entertainer, founded his 3-on-3 league six years ago. This iteration of basketball also has a legitimate fan following. However, Ice Cube lashed out at the NBA for not supporting his unique vision, which brings in many NBA players from the past and the present to compete for glory. This year the 3-on-3 league will have its premiere in the iconic O2 arena in London. With that recognition, this unique version of basketball will draw viewers globally.

Basketball is rooted in the American youth culture. Especially among the Black community, it has rendered both hope and livelihood for many. New iterations of this beautiful game, getting developed and becoming mainstream, are sure-shot signs of its business-worthiness. From now on, many more entrepreneurs and lovers of this game will come up with their own versions of it in creative ways. And it should be welcomed and supported as consumers of basketball are only growing in numbers day by day.
