The Minnesota Timberwolves took home yet another dominating win on Thursday night. Anthony Edwards had just another day at the office, shouldering the Wolves’ offense. However, in his 28-point outing, he left everyone speechless with an outstanding put-back dunk. Following the game, the star revealed the inspiration behind the thunderous dunk.

The usual put-back dunks are carried out when a teammate misses a bucket and the player dunks the ball straight off the rebound. However, tonight, in Edwards’ case, the 22-year-old intentionally hit the board and delivered a put-back dunk off the rebound, leaving the NBA world in disbelief.

The Thursday night game between the Wolves and Memphis Grizzlies came alive in the 3rd quarter. The dunk seemed to be a combination of basketball IQ and peak athleticism.

Trailing behind the Grizzlies with 6 points, Anthony Edwards had the ball in his hand. He went up against the Grizzlies’ Xavier Tillman Sr. and conned him with a pump fake. And, instead of shooting the ball, he hit the ball directly on the board to pull off the put-back dunk. Following that play, the Wolves went to pick up a late lead in the game and registered a comfortable 118-103 win.

Featuring on the post-game interview hosted by Ernie Johnson, the rising superstar was asked about the dunk. He replied with the idea behind the bucket and also revealed the inspiration. Ant Man said, “I seen somebody do it in an All-Star game, so I was like, ‘I might as well try it’.”

While Edwards couldn’t remember the exact inspiration behind the shot, it is still unclear that who exactly inspired him to pull off this spellbinding play.

At the same time, Luka Doncic pulled off a bucket with a similar intent. Let’s find out more about it.

Luka Doncic’s clutch bucket

Just like Anthony Edwards intentionally hit the board for the put-back dunk, Luka Doncic also created a similar play in 2022. During the close Knicks, the Mavs were two points short to tie the game with four seconds left on the game. Doncic, who stood at the free throw line, intentionally hit the board, caught the rebound himself, and scored the buckets to tie the game.

It may not be similar to Ant-Man’s play, but the idea behind the bucket to outsmart the defenders is similar. Fans might expect a similar play in the coming games.
