Two sharpshooters, two icons, two Currys, finally together in the same locker room after 11 NBA seasons. This is the stuff of basketball folklore, but under all these splashy headlines lurks a financial curveball that could splash cold water on Seth Curry’s recent financial big bet.

On September 30, 2025, the Golden State Warriors sealed two deals that have got fans on their toes for months! One of them is an end to the whole Jonathan Kuminga drama, which has brought in very colorful reactions from the fans. The other? Getting 35-year-old Seth Curry aboard on a one-year veteran’s minimum contract.

This turns the “Splash Brothers” moniker into a literal family affair. But here is the big twist: Seth’s big move to the Bay Area puts his shiny new $6.4 million mansion back in NC in the crosshairs, raising several questions about resale headache, hefty maintenance tabs, and uprooting from the deep roots of North Carolina.

Slightly more than a year ago, on Sept. 6, 2024, Seth and his wife, Callie (daughter of Doc Rivers), dropped $6.4 million on a 9,426-square-foot brick palace in Foxcroft: seven bedrooms, undeniable modern flair, and connections to his childhood during Dad Dell’s Hornets days.

It was defying permanence in the midst of his two seasons with the Hornets. Fast-forward to this Warriors pivot, and suddenly it’s an expensive anchor. Charlotte’s high-end market is slowing (median prices down 2% year over year), so a potential 5-6% resale commission could take $384,000, and annual maintenance north of $50,000 in taxes and utilities.

Seth Curry: From undrafted journeyman to Bay Area bench boost

Key to the Warriors’ journey to sign Seth was the resolution of a complicated negotiation with young forward Jonathan Kuminga. The 22-year-old signed a two-year, $48.5 million extension that day with a team option for 2026-27.  Kuminga’s breakout playoff performance (20.8 points on 63.5% true shooting against Minnesota) was enough to keep him on the table, but the delay had put a damper on other deals, such as Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton.

Once cleared, Seth’s Exhibit 9 training camp deal slid in, set for a mid-November re-signing once prorated salaries align. It’s a low-risk add for a team hovering $2 million below the hard cap, but for Seth, it’s a high-stakes shift from his Charlotte Hornets comfort zone.

The NBA journey of Seth is more of an underdog story. Undrafted in 2013, he has bounced around nine teams in 11 years and has accumulated 550 games with 10.0 points and a fluid 43.3% mark behind the arc (seventh all-time). Since his D-League All-Star days in Santa Cruz to pacing the league at 45.6 percent in the 3-point category last season, he has established a niche as a consistent marksman in the face of early injury problems such as a year-long tibia injury in 2017-18.

Now playing as a third-string guard, he is going to slip behind Buddy Hield and Melton and play between 10-15 minutes to stretch the defense and provide Steph, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green with room.  The Curry duo’s excitement has simmered for years. Seth told NBC Sports Bay Area in July 2025: “Steph would love me to come over there… I’ve always embraced the Warriors and their system.”
