Milwaukee has adopted Giannis as its own. A friend, son, hero, skilled player – he is each of these to everyone in the Deer City. But this did not happen overnight. The Giannis effect began when he signed with the Bucks on a five-year contract extension in 2020. The credibility it gave to Wisconsin is beyond anything words can convey.

Of course, the interest he takes in the betterment of the community has impacted the economic side greatly. The $50 million pumped into the city in the championship year of 2021 is one instance.

Pat Connaughton, said in Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “People are watching Bucks games – they care about the Bucks winning; they don’t care about their social views, their political views or economic background. They care about the Milwaukee Bucks winning and coming together and rooting for their team.”
