With 20 and 21 points respectively, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren made their preseason debut on the night of 9th October, 2023. Both the rookies literally put their best foot forward, be it regarding points scored, steals, rebounds, and blocks. With the spectacular performance under the limelight, both Wemby and Chet are now the top contenders for the Rookie of the Year award. However, this match has brought a previously faded debate to full throttle. Comparison between Wemby and Chet is now the talk of the town. 

Every podcast and every media house publishing an article comparing the effects of weight and height differences on the performance of one another is quite common now. The top draft picks of the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder took to the hardwood and made the game a must-watch. The same debate happened between the crew at Gil’s Arena yesterday.

He said- “Both, Wemby, I mean his skill set- his skill set is nice. Umm. I mean, there is, you know, usually people have potential and there are people who just are skilled. He is just skilled. It seems like he just needs reps, you know. Playing in the NBA system, going night in and night out to see what he can do vs. what type of players. But the skill set is already there. He is like a 7’6 Kevin Durant type.”

Well, definitely it’s the skill set, because in just under 20 minutes he scores a whopping 20 points on 8 of 13 field goal attempts, including 2-3s.
