After attending the NBA Paris 2024 game featuring a game between the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers, Channing Frye opened up to HoopsHype about his awe-inspiring experience watching Wembanyama play for the first time. His first experience watching Wemby in person was during the San Antonio Spurs’ home game, where they secured a decisive 129-115 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers, putting an end to their 18-game losing streak. The game left such a strong impression on the 2016 NBA Champion that he stated, “That f*cking kid is… He makes me giddy to watch. I remember watching Tim Duncan and Shaq… Because I’ve never seen anything like that. Someone that young, that skilled, everything he does is amazing.”

He further added that Wemby brings the same excitement to the court as when 39-year-old James set the internet ablaze with his vicious dunk from the dotted line. “You’re like, ‘What kind of freaks are these guys playing basketball’…That’s the excitement that Victor brings,” added Fyre.

However, despite Wemby’s impressive run so far, the Spurs are still languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 7-30 record. But things are starting to look better.

The San Antonio Spurs are getting better

While the Spurs may not be considered playoff contenders this season, it appears that the team, fueled by its young core, has hit its stride. Currently riding a two-game winning streak with recent victories over the Detroit Pistons and the Charlotte Hornets, the Spurs seem to be on an upward trajectory.
